The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) works hard to provide insight into fire protection best practices. Below is a story about how saved both the structures and a little boy:

A four-year-old boy playing with a lighter ignited clothing in a closet in his two-family home. Fortunately, heat from the fire activated a residential sprinkler, which extinguished the flames
before they spread throughout the house.

The bedrooms and hallways were equipped with smoke detectors and a wet-pipe sprinkler system protected the entire structure.

Our minds and prayers are with the Lake Charles community and our team there as they begin to assess damages and build back. Please keep everyone in the path of Hurricane Laura in your prayers.

Hurricane Laura Live Updates: Storm Plows Through Louisiana After landfall overnight as a Category 4 hurricane with 150 m.p.h. winds, Laura has ripped northward, sowing destruction even as its winds diminish. At least four deaths were confirmed and hundreds of thousands of people lost power.
