Federal investigators conducted a search at the residence of John Bolton, former national security adviser during Donald Trump’s initial presidency who later became a Trump critic, in connection with a probe concerning classified document handling, according to a source with knowledge of the situation on Friday.The source indicated that Bolton was not arrested and faces no criminal charges at this time. An attorney previously representing Bolton declined to provide immediate commentary Friday.While the Justice Department offered no official statement, department officials appeared to make veiled references to the operation through Friday morning social media activity.FBI Director Kash Patel, who had previously listed Bolton among “Executive Branch Deep State” members in his 2023 publication, wrote on X: “NO ONE is above the law… agents on mission.” Attorney General Pam Bondi amplified his message, commenting: “America’s safety isn’t negotiable. Following an extended day of legislative debate, the Texas House of Representatives approved a Republican-backed congressional redistricting map on Wednesday evening that has the potential to turn five districts red through the consolidation of Democratic strongholds in Houston, Austin, and Dallas-Fort Worth into new Republican-favorable seats, while simultaneously making two Rio Grande Valley districts currently under Democratic control more contested.

The redistricting effort puts at risk the districts presently represented by Democratic Representatives Al Green, Marc Veasey, Julie Johnson, Greg Casar, and Lloyd Doggett.

The vote occurred several weeks following state Democrats’ condemnation of the unusual mid-decade redistricting as obvious gerrymandering designed to boost the number of GOP congressional seats.

The redistricting proposal, which received backing from President Donald Trump, appears headed for approval. The map could clear the state Senate by week’s end and would subsequently require Gov. Greg Abbott’s signature.

During a post-vote press conference, House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Gene Wu conceded that Democrats had been defeated in this instance.

“This part of the fight is over, but it is merely the first chapter,” Wu said, adding later that a lawsuit against the new maps will be coming together soon but not until after Abbott signs the legislation.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet Friday in Alaska for a critical summit focused on pursuing a ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The meeting will take place at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not be present at Friday’s bilateral meeting, though the White House has been considering inviting him to Alaska for potential subsequent discussions. Trump has indicated his hope that this initial summit could pave the way for a follow-up meeting that would include Zelenskyy.
“I think it’s going to be a good meeting, but the more important meeting will be the second meeting that we’re having. We’re going to have a meeting with President Putin, President Zelenskyy, myself and maybe we’ll bring some of the European leaders, maybe not,”  Trump stated regarding his expectations for the diplomatic process.
