Handmade wood mid-century modern furniture. Ring bell at garage door on N side of building for entry Open by appointment.

For Entry: Ring the doorbell at the Relic Modern garage door on the North side of the building by the loading dock. Functional minimalism guides the Relic Modern design approach. We start by taking inspiration from classic designs and paring back to just the essentials. The form of our designs is amplified by the geometry and texture of our high-quality woods. As a result, each piece is distinct,

Quality Control hard at work. More evidence of yesterday's reel claim.

Turns out I'm not the only one who approves of a well-made piece of MCM furniture. Quality control around here has four legs and no deadlines.

Bookends. Two complementary options: walnut face or all edge-grain Baltic birch. Swipe to view.
Hand-rubbed oil and wax finish, built to outlast the books they're holding up. That's the whole design philosophy in one small object — take away until only what's necessary is left.

No one taught me this. I taught myself, getting a little better with every piece. Relic Modern started as an experimental hobby, not as a business plan. That part came later.

My desire for this piece is to let the walnut do the talking, and to pull back on the exposed Baltic birch that shows up elsewhere in my work. Clean geometry, nothing extra. The sliding doors travel in front of the drawers, with square cutouts on the doors as handles, adding just enough rhythm without breaking the line. Solid walnut legs with a beveled edge give it a quiet, grounded stance.

This is a still piece — the kind of thing that holds a room rather than asking for attention.
