For 35 years, Marcelita’s was more than a restaurant in Ohio.

It was a gathering place. A second home. A space where cultures met, stories were shared, and memories were made around the table.

Every dish holds a piece of its history, and every page reflects the people who made it feel like home.

There’s something really special about seeing a cookbook come to life. But hearing what it means to the family it was created for? That part stays with me.

Over the past few weeks in Minnesota, we’ve watched in horror as immigrant communities have been targeted. The fear, the pain and the loss that families are experiencing is heartbreaking and completely unacceptable.

At Heirloom Collaborative, celebrating culture isn’t just a brand value. It’s a commitment to the dignity, the humanity and the stories every family carries. Every cookbook we create is a bridge between traditions. Hmong gatherings, Jewish holiday tables, Panamanian feasts and the blended families who carry these traditions forward.

We honor cultural identity through shared recipes, storytelling and the pride of preserving where we come from. In times like these, we also honor the people behind those traditions. Immigrants, refugees and neighbors — the people whose contributions strengthen our communities every day.

Minnesota is home to vibrant communities. Somali, Hmong, Latino, East African, Southeast Asian, Indigenous peoples and more. To those who are hurting, afraid or grieving, we see you, we stand with you and your stories matter.

Let’s continue to lift up voices that are too often silenced, protect one another with compassion and create spaces where culture is celebrated, not targeted.

One of my many favorite things about this book were all of the personal touches we included: handwritten recipe cards, personal serveware, custom pantry doors, favorite coffee mugs- the list goes on and on! I’m forever grateful to be a part of this ❤️
