The Importance of Obtaining Complete Records For Prospective Orthodontic Patients⭐

This patient presented for treatment with what appears to be minimal crowding in her lower arch (check out these photos!). Many times this case would be treated immediately with clear aligners (Invisalign) without obtaining any additional records. In this case, a lateral head x-ray (cephalometric radiograph) shows the lower front teeth are severely tipped forward out of supporting bone.

Given this, we elected to remove teeth midway back in the jaw and place full braces which allowed us to align the teeth and close all spaces - but more importantly to retract those lower incisor teeth into a healthier physiologic position. Her bite is now in a much better position to evenly distribute biting forces, and there is significantly less strain on the underlying bone and soft tissue.

Obtaining proper records to make accurate diagnoses is of paramount importance when considering orthodontic providers. Our practice does this free of charge at every new patient appointment to be sure our patients are receiving the best possible diagnosis and care.
