🌟 Meet Our Summer Intern, Wyatt Brown! 🌟

We're excited to welcome Wyatt to the Sumser Insurance Professionals team this summer!

🎓 School & Major: Appalachian State University — Finance & Banking

💡 Why Insurance? Wyatt was drawn to the insurance industry because of its impact on people's lives and the opportunities it provides for growth, problem-solving, and building meaningful relationships.

📈 What He's Hoping to Gain: This summer, Wyatt is focused on strengthening his communication skills, applying his business knowledge in a real-world setting, and learning more about the insurance industry and successful business operations.

🎯 Future Career Goals: After graduation, Wyatt hopes to pursue a career in project management, operations, or business improvement within the financial services industry.

🌄 Outside the Office: You'll find him lifting weights before sunrise, hiking with friends, writing music, and spending time with family and friends.

🤝 Campus Involvement: Wyatt has helped students launch and grow university clubs and will serve as President of Appalachian State's Finance Student Association this upcoming year.

🐾 Fun Fact: He's a huge dog lover—especially Bernese Mountain Dogs!

❤️ Why Sumser? Wyatt chose Sumser Insurance Professionals because of the opportunity to work with a growing hometown business where he could make a meaningful impact. He values the relationships he's built with our team and is proud to contribute to projects that will continue supporting the agency's growth long after his internship ends.

Today, the Sumser Insurance Professionals team is stepping away from the office a little early so we can spend the afternoon volunteering with the Special Olympics and supporting the incredible athletes, coaches, and families who inspire us all.

As a reminder, our office will be closing at noon today, June 5, 2026, while our team gives back to the community we are proud to serve.

Happy Birthday to our principal agent, Shane Badon! 🎉

Shane joined Sumser Insurance Professionals in October 2025 after 17 years with Erie Insurance, bringing incredible experience, leadership, and dedication to our team.

Outside of the office, Shane enjoys tennis, golf, F3, traveling, woodworking and spending time cheering on his children, Eli and Quinn, in all of their sports and activities. He and his wife, Lissa, will celebrate 15 years of marriage this July, and at home they have a beloved cat, Pilot, who’s nearly 20 years old! 🐱

If you know Shane, you also know his love for tacos — especially Chipotle 🌮 — and his favorite getaway spot, Kiawah Island.

Today we’re celebrating one of our awesome team members here at Sumser Insurance Professionals!
John has been in the insurance industry since 1993, getting his start with GEICO, and we’ve been lucky to have him as part of the Sumser family for just over 3 years. His experience and dedication make a huge impact on our team and clients every day.

Outside the office, John has quite the story—he’s lived everywhere from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to Ft. Bragg, Slippery Rock, Fredericksburg, and right here in Chester, VA. He’s been married to his wife, Karen, since 1999 (they met at GEICO!), and together they have a daughter, Samantha, who lives in Fredericksburg.
He’s also a proud pet parent to Castiel, his 9-year-old shepherd mix, and Xena Princess Warrior, his black-and-white cat with a big personality. 🐾

When he’s not working, you can find John lifting weights, reading, writing, cooking, or spending quality time with his family. And if you’re ever looking for a good recommendation—he loves the cocktails at Charred and everything on the menu at Q BBQ on Hull Street!

One of his most memorable birthdays? His 40th, when Karen surprised him with a fancy stainless steel grill—fully assembled and ready to go. Now that’s a great gift!
