💬 A former Henrico NICU nurse was sentenced after being found guilty of abusing 9 newborns in her care — squeezing them with excessive force, moving them carelessly, and causing fractures that couldn’t be explained.

She was facing 20 charges — INCLUDING malicious wounding — before a plea deal reduced them to 9 felony counts of child abuse.

She pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 4 months per charge, served consecutively.

Three years total.

These incidents happened between 2022 and 2024 — right here in Virginia.

In a hospital.

In a NICU.

The place families are told is the safest place for their most fragile babies.

doula, Tamika Tali, stood at that podium in front of the Danville Rotary Club and told the truth — high poverty, transportation barriers, an OBGYN shortage, and birthing people in Southwest Virginia STILL fighting to get basic prenatal care.

Birth in Color exists to make sure that truth doesn’t just get spoken — it gets acted on;

to make sure no birthing person in Virginia — rural, urban, or anywhere in between — has to fight that hard alone.

Thank you to VHRC and the Danville Rotary Club for making space for this essential conversation. 💕

breaks it all the way down — a doula isn’t just a support person.

They’re your advocate, your liaison, and your voice when the system tries to talk over you.

Having someone on your side is *everything.*

You deserve care that sees you.🌈

We went. We showed up. And we brought out the crew. 🥹🤎

Shoutout to and every advocate in that room fighting for our FREEDOM — y’all felt like family.

Every state is navigating a different reality after the fall of Roe. But what we found in that space was something powerful: people from across the country refusing to let barriers be the end of the story.

We came together to talk real solutions — for Virginia folks AND patients nationwide.

What does abortion access actually look like on the ground?

How do we build pathways through the barriers?

The vitamin K shot is not a vaccine — but it has been swept into the same wave of post-pandemic medical distrust. Social media posts have called it a “toxin.” Podcasters with millions of followers tell parents that needing it means “God designed babies wrong.”

⬅️ Swipe through to learn about the distrust behind vitamin k shot, and what led us to this point.
