🌸 “From little giggles to grown-up smiles, watching families grow through the years is one of the greatest joys of my work. ❤️”

In 1983, after graduating college in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I followed my dream to the East Coast and joined Caston Studios in Virginia Beach. That journey led me to Richmond and a lifelong love of portraiture.

In the late ’80s, I painted this portrait of Mr. Caston’s father as a birthday gift—a tribute to the man who started it all. I wrote on the back, “Laney, I used everything you taught me to create this. I hope you like it.”

Laney passed away about a year ago. His wife Stephanie recently returned the portrait to me, and now, decades later, I’m honored to display it in my studio.

A full-circle moment—and a quiet reminder of legacy, gratitude, and purpose.
