NEW PODCAST EPISODE: Birth Trauma — You’re Allowed to Heal
We talk a lot about birth stories. We don’t talk nearly enough about what happens when a woman is still carrying hers years later.
In this episode of Hey Heather, What About?, I sit down with Leah Harlan, LPC, a trauma-informed therapist who works with women experiencing birth trauma, perinatal anxiety, chronic stress, and the emotional effects of major life transitions.
This conversation stayed with me.
We talk about the births that didn’t go as planned. Feeling unheard or powerless. Emergency C-sections. NICU stays. Pregnancy and infant loss. And the complicated reality that you can have a healthy baby, love that child deeply, and still have been traumatized by what happened to you.
But the heart of this episode is healing.
What happens when your baby is now 15, 25, or even 40—and you realize you never really healed from their birth?
What can trauma look like years later? How can it affect your nervous system, your relationships, intimacy, parenting, and the way you feel in your own body?
And most importantly: Is it too late to heal?
It isn’t.
I’m incredibly proud of this episode and grateful to Leah for bringing so much compassion and knowledge to a conversation women deserve to have.
