Helping homeowners avoid costly mistakes before they hire. Start here ↓
Every day, experienced plumbers retire, change careers, or leave the industry—and when they do, decades of knowledge often leave with them.
The biggest threat facing the plumbing trade isn’t technology.
It isn’t AI.
It isn’t a lack of tools.
It’s knowledge loss.
The skills, troubleshooting methods, field experience, and practical lessons that can’t be learned from a textbook are disappearing faster than they’re being passed on.
That’s one of the reasons I teach.
At Florida International Training Institute (FITI), I have the opportunity to help train the next generation of plumbers and share the lessons that were passed down to me throughout my career.
Our industry needs more mentorship, more training, and more experienced professionals willing to invest in those coming behind them.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the plumbing trade today?

🚨 PASS OR FAIL? 🚨
I recently took over a plumbing project where this bathroom group had already been installed.
Before I share my thoughts, I’d like to hear yours.
Would you approve this installation, require corrections, or request additional information before making a determination?
Real-world examples like this create valuable discussions because plumbing is about more than connecting pipes—it’s about understanding drainage, venting, code compliance, and long-term system performance.
As an instructor at Florida International Training Institute (FITI), I enjoy using actual field situations to help students think critically and develop strong troubleshooting skills.

One of the most rewarding parts of being an instructor is watching students gain the confidence to perform real-world plumbing tasks with their own hands.
In this video, one of our students is getting hands-on experience operating a drain cleaning machine under supervision. These practical exercises help bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and field application.
The plumbing trade continues to offer outstanding opportunities for individuals who are willing to learn a valuable skill and invest in their future. Every skilled plumber started somewhere, and confidence is built one lesson, one task, and one success at a time.
I am proud to serve as a plumbing instructor at Florida International Training Institute (FITI), where we focus on developing the next generation of plumbing professionals.

What was the first plumbing skill that gave you confidence in the trade?
One of the best moments I have had this week.
My son, King Isaiah, and his friend created their own PipeSense Consulting service call using his little sister’s play kitchen as the jobsite.
Cabinets open. Sink inspection underway. Two young men taking the work seriously.
As a plumbing educator, I teach students every week. But as a father, seeing my son take interest in what I do and support the business means something special.
King, thank you for making Dad smile. I am proud of your creativity, your heart, and the young man you are becoming.
These are the moments that matter most.

PART 6: Why This Fitting Matters
One fitting choice can affect drainage performance, venting, future maintenance, and code compliance.
In this video, I break down another fitting commonly found in plumbing systems and explain why understanding its purpose matters. The goal isn’t just to memorize fittings—it’s to understand how each one contributes to a properly functioning system.
Teaching these concepts is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do because every lesson helps prepare the next generation of plumbing professionals for success in the field.
I teach plumbing at Florida International Training Institute (FITI) in Doral, Florida.

PART 6 of the Fitting Explanation Series.
One of the biggest advantages a skilled plumber develops is understanding the purpose behind every fitting in a system.
Many fittings appear similar at first glance, but their intended function can be completely different.
In today’s lesson, I’m breaking down another fitting and explaining why understanding these details matters in the field.
Whether you’re an apprentice, a plumbing student, or an experienced professional, mastering the fundamentals creates better installations and better decisions.

One of the questions I’ve been getting recently is:
“How do you properly use cast iron snap cutters?”
Instead of trying to explain it in a comment, I decided to demonstrate it on the jobsite.
In this video, I walk through the process of measuring, marking, positioning the snap cutters, and making a clean cut on cast iron pipe.
This is the type of hands-on skill that separates watching from doing. The plumbing trade is built on practical knowledge, repetition, and learning from experienced professionals.
As an instructor at Florida International Training Institute (FITI), I teach students the fundamentals and real-world applications they need to build confidence in the trade. Through PipeSense Consulting, I also provide mentorship and guidance for individuals looking to strengthen their plumbing knowledge and skills.
What plumbing skill would you like to see demonstrated next?
Every skilled plumber starts somewhere.
What you’re seeing here isn’t just a drain cleaning lesson—it’s the next generation of plumbing professionals learning the principles behind the equipment before ever stepping into the field.
Too often, people focus on running the machine and overlook the fundamentals that prevent damage, improve safety, and increase success on the job. In this lesson, we’re breaking down the RIDGID K-60 and discussing the concepts every plumber should understand before tackling a clogged drain.
One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is watching students gain confidence as classroom knowledge begins to connect with real-world application.
This is Part 1 of our Drain Cleaning Series.
Part 2 will take us deeper into the process and show the equipment in action.
The plumbing industry continues to offer incredible opportunities for those willing to learn a valuable skill and commit to mastering their craft.

What was your first introduction to the trades? Let me know below.
The quality of a finished copper joint starts long before the torch comes out.
In this video, I’m demonstrating part of the preparation process: measuring, marking, cutting, cleaning, and preparing copper tubing before assembly.
These are the fundamentals I teach students and the same principles that apply in the field every day.
