"I'm a snowbird and started giving platelets about every 8 or 10 days since Christmas time. Very nice folks in Melbourne, FL and they really take good care of me here. My daughter had a bone marrow transplant and I'm trying to pay it forward. My daughter needed many many units of platelets while being treated for Leukemia. I'm a lifelong blood donor, but giving platelets is more rewarding since I can give so much more often."

Jazmina passed away at two years old from leukemia. Before she passed, her life was extended thanks to blood and platelet donors.

Her parents write, “Each bag of donated blood became a lifeline, buying us precious time to hold her hand, to play her favorite songs, to give her all of our love. [Those days] were a gift, made possible by complete strangers who took the time to donate blood.”

"I've always believed in service and finding opportunities to help others regardless of my financial situation. When my mom was diagnosed with cancer though my focus became blood donation. I tried donating every few months through different drives and groups. One day while donating I read about donation maximization by blood type. For me, that means Platelet/Plasma. It allows me to donate more frequently and feel I'm making the most impact. Probably the biggest boost comes from sharing my donation to encourage others and having so many strangers respond with a story of how a donation saved a loved one. There's really nothing like it."
