Holidays with kids are magical… and also full of overstimulation, schedule changes, and lots of opinions from well-meaning relatives.
If your child is a little “extra” this time of year, it’s not bad behavior — it’s their nervous system trying to keep up.
Slow things down, protect their boundaries, and remember: manners never have to mean forced affection. ❤️
You’ve got this, even in the holiday chaos.

Every year parents ask, “What toys should I get?”
So I rounded up just a few of my longtime favorites—organized by age—to help you choose toys that build fine motor skills, language, play, sensory exploration, and more!
While there are so many more, and these are only some of the things I love using, they’re a great and easy place to start!

When kids draw a person, they’re not just making a cute scribble — they’re building body awareness, practicing visual–motor skills, and learning how all their body parts connect and work together.

One of my favorite ways to support this? A mirror!
Hold a mirror up and have your child look at themselves as they draw. You can guide them with simple prompts:
👀 “What shape is your head?”
💪 “Can you find your shoulders?”
🦶 “How many legs do you see?”
🤲 “Where do your hands go?”

Using a mirror turns the activity into a fun, hands-on lesson in noticing their body, organizing their drawing, and building confident early writing skills.

✨ Try it this week and watch their little stick figures come to life!

Fine motor skills start with finger teamwork!

When your child’s “helper fingers” (ring + pinky) learn to stay tucked, the “working fingers” (thumb, index + middle) can do their job with control and confidence. 💪

This separation — called radial–ulnar dissociation — helps kids cut, color, and write more smoothly. Try the painter’s tape trick to build awareness and strengthen those little hands! 🎨✂️🖍️
