One of the most impactful things a parent can do is consistently respond to their child's communication attempts — including gestures, vocalizations, and non-verbal cues that may not yet look like conventional language.

Parent training in ABA teaches caregivers to recognize these attempts, respond in ways that reinforce communication, and gradually shape them into more functional forms. Consistent caregiver response is one of the strongest predictors of communication progress.

Verbal Behavior (VB) is a branch of ABA that analyzes language by its function — not just its form. Developed from B.F. Skinner's research, VB identifies distinct categories of communication and teaches each one systematically.

Manding (requesting), tacting (labeling), and intraverbal (conversational) skills are each taught through targeted intervention. This approach is especially effective for children with limited or emerging language, as it builds communication from the ground up.

Communication skills develop most effectively when practiced in natural, structured social contexts. Our micro-center creates daily opportunities for children to initiate, respond, and maintain communication with peers — all under direct clinical supervision.

Every communication attempt is prompted, reinforced, and tracked. Our clinicians systematically fade support as skills strengthen, building independence that transfers beyond the therapy room.

In ABA, every behavior is understood through the lens of function. There are four primary functions that drive most problem behaviors: access to tangibles, escape from demands, attention, and sensory stimulation.

Identifying the function of a behavior is the first step in designing an effective intervention. Without understanding why a behavior occurs, any response — however well-intentioned — may accidentally reinforce it.

Functional Communication Training (FCT) is one of the most evidence-based interventions in ABA therapy. It is built on the principle that most challenging behaviors serve a communicative purpose — the child is expressing a need they cannot yet communicate in a functional way.

FCT teaches a direct, socially appropriate alternative — a word, a sign, a picture exchange, or a device — that serves the same function as the problem behavior. As the replacement skill strengthens, the problem behavior loses its purpose.

Mirror neurons are brain cells that activate both when a behavior is performed and when it is observed. This system is foundational to imitation learning, empathy, and social understanding — all areas that ABA therapy targets directly.

Through structured modeling, peer interaction, and guided practice, ABA activates and develops the social brain circuits that support connection, communication, and adaptive functioning in group settings.

Sleep dysfunction is one of the most common and underaddressed challenges in children with autism spectrum disorder. Research shows that sleep deprivation directly impairs memory consolidation, emotional regulation, and behavioral flexibility — all of which are critical to ABA progress.

ABA-based sleep interventions use structured behavioral strategies to establish consistent bedtime routines and reduce sleep-related problem behaviors, improving outcomes across all areas of treatment.
