WORKING LEADERS
Lead By Example
A good leader should guide others by their behavior instead of by words.
A good leader works with you.
How is time spent?
There are three on the board that do not work on the floor.
What do they do? Ask them. If you can find them.
Comparison:
Local 6001. 3,376 Members. President works at her job 3 to 4 days a week. The VP? He also works.
Local 13301. 1,500 Members. President works at his job as does the entire board. Deployed a couple days a week.
Local 3140. 1,600 Members. President is 100% deployed. Area VP? Secretary? Not on the floor.
The largest Local - they all work.
The Local of similar size - they all work.
Local 3140? They don't work. Why not? Are they that busy?
Or maybe they use their time (and YOUR dollars) ineffectively.
Commitment:
Working with you. At the airport. At night. When all heck breaks loose. Weekly. Nightly,.
I will encourage all other board memebrs to do the same.
Working WITH you!
Take Back Your Local!
Ask,: why is Lisa not on the Shop Steward List?
I have been for years.
CWA training is the same everywhere
I was the VP of my prior Local.
And yet, one of the most knowledgeable and vocal about our contract is not on the list.
I share info across social media.
I host the Stronger Together page to encourage sharing of info about contract, job duties more, between RES and Airport.
We are in this together. ALL of us.
I have been a peer witness for many at MIA
I have had other file grievances for me
Many members from other stations reach out privately with questions.
I am glad to answer
And yet, the current board declined when I offered. Rather they ignored me.
Why
We are so desperate at night for Shop Stewards.
I promised to add many more!
Financials
Love em. Hate em. Need to understand em
You may have seen or heard about some statements regarding our Local financial info from a website.
Each summer they become public knowledge per the IRS.
They can be retrieved form the LMRDA site.
Unionfacts puts that into a nice readable format.
The latest data is for the 2022 tax return
Members 1,600
Assets $525,879
Employees 9
For 2022:
Total Income$489,252
Total Spent $611,406
Ouch. I dont like those numbers. We dont have full data about them.
Our local does not tell us.
For the past 2 years our spending has GREATLY increased. About 50% more.
How was is spent?
Representational 60% including:
$13K to hotel $13k promotional items. really? $13K is promo items. Bottle, cups and gizmos
Officers pay 29%
Officers are paid the same amount of money they should make if taken off manning
This is called Lost Wages when Deployed (taken off manning)
Pres. $83K plus $41 K in expenses. Whoa. Thats a lot
Exec VP $7k. Really. That isn't much at all.
Secy-Tres $38k
VP $30k
3 Area Reps $18k, $16k, $10k
Employees 15%
Education 0 (I need to change that)
If you click thru the salary you will see the breakdown for each person for each year and their title.
Remember - - - A member should only be paid the exact same amount as they do NOT make from working for the company.
Then add in medical and 401k.
Questions:
1. why does our presidents income vary SO much and end up MORE than pay from the company. Pay has NOT changed since 2019.
2. Why does our president take MORE in pay than top out income for the past 3 years
3. What does the Exec VP do? Supposed to be 2nd to pres and oversee all stations. Rarely deployed. Only about 188 hours of 2080 for the year. Very little
4. Why does an Area rep earn $18k? And the VP less than half?
We NEED to do the same.

Financials
Some love em (me 😃)
Some hate em ( OK, most of y'all)
But really, it's YOUR money.
What do we know about Local financials?
Not much
I was one of two members at the Sept meeting, the money was glossed over on a NY minute.
What can I find out?
All unions tax returns are public knowledge.
Once SSA and IRS receive them and save, they are public information.
Two non profit organizations gather, verify and present the data for public consumption.
Nation Labor and Union Facts
You may have seen the screenshots or print outs and may have heard about the turmoil at T2 about the data and the truthfulness of the content
I will help you understand.
And present the truth.
First, a bit about why I am qualified.
I do tax returns. (As do a few other members)
I am a senior tax advisor with the largest worls wide tax preparation company.
I have been to federal tax Court.
I have won my case.
I choose to work here because I love what i do.
I still do taxes . My worldwide clients follow me anywhere.
So
Our Local tax returns.
Wait, let me backtrack
In general, when a local union official is deployed to do local business, that person is taken off the floor/manning/schedule/etc.
In effect, the lose their AA wages
So, CWA can only pay them their 'lost time'
They are paid the same exact amount by CWA that they should have been paid by AA.
Plus, at year end they alse get any amount of 401k match and medical expense that is normally paid by the company.
Remember
Our wages have NOT changed since 2019.
I know we all know that if hired before that date.
Absolutely NO increase in pay
Y'all heard that on State of the Airline when Deb, prez of Local 6001 asked for more pay and Isom declined. Grrrr
So
Anybody with 11 years or more should have NO change in pay.
However,
Our tax returns show otherwise
Prez
2020 $81,279
2021 $92,540
2022 $83,200
Per contract, top out pay is $70,720
$32/hr + CSC premium of $2/hr
Math:
$32/hr x 40 hr/wk plus $2 = $70,720
Huh
Add in 401k match max $2475
Max 73,195
Toss in the cost of Healthcare , maybe 5k more.
If I, as a CSC worked just my normal hours, the max pay is $70,720.
How the heck is the prez paid more?
Even if you add in$5k for medical and 401k
NOTHING CLOSE TO $91K
To hear that your elected leader ranted and said that the numbers were a lie presents two problems.
1. She wasn't paid that much and the tax retirn is a lie. Oops, you signed it, you put your personal home address on the tax return.
2. She was paid that much and she was paid more than she was supposed to.
Why?
Either way, my fellow members, you should nebacared
And careful.
And angry.
Very angry
The rant the previous week at T2 was Conduct Unbecoming
It was inappropriate
It was unwarranted
More:
Reimbursements for 2022 were $41,509
Huh???
official business of $ 14, 002
Other pay $27,507
For what?
Without accurate financial data presented to the members, all we can do is wonder....
What the Heck is being done with my dues?!?!?
Moreover....2022 data
Income 489,252
Expenses 611,406
Mind blown 😳
OK, we had some $ banked, but really?!?!
We overspend Income by over $110,000!!!
Without detailed reports we do not know where it's being spent.
Or why.
I intend to have absolute clarity of finances
You should demand it!

What is my normal day at ATO?
I say hello and introduce myself to every agent and every CAR the moment I walk in.
And at each shift change if not helping another
I find the CSCs and do the same.
I count bags, size the dogs and look for IRROPs reroutes at night.
What do I do at Gates?
Review every fight and go to every gate.
If I can make it? I call or drop my name in ConnectMe.
Do I bug people? Yup
Do I defend the members? Heck yeah.
Do I volunteer to take the heat from unhappy pax who miss a flight or have a bad seat or have too many bags or get downgraded from biz or denied boarding?
Yes. I've got your back.
That's how I roll.
I am there for you.
It is unconscionable and so unbelievable that candidates are NOT ALLOWED TO CAMPAIGN on airport property!?!?
This is how the current regime keeps you the members from knowing about your candidates.
Unbelievable!
I'm usually a very positive person
I am saddened by these rules.
Deployment
When a person is doing union business they should be deployed and taken off the floor/manning.
Weekly, my previous local sent a request to station mgt to list which members will be doing union business on which days and be taken off manning and be paid for their lost time by the local.
I plan to follow that process.
Example:
Stefan, Pres, MTWR,
Maria, VP, MR
Alicia, Tres, F
Alex, Secy M
Lost Time
When a member is doing union business and taken off manning, the member is paid by the local when the member files a form describing the union business they did.
On occasion, a union official may be taken off the floor for an hour or two while still on manning. Maybe for a mtg with mgt, or to rep a member for a grievance.
If a member is on the manning, they should show up for their assignment

Committees.
We have a number of committees, many of which are mandated by national, a few we created locally.
When we change officers post elections I would love to encourage more members to become involved, to be a part of a committee.
When people ask me, hey, are you part of the union? I reply, we are ALL the union.
These are our committees.

Personally, I have a great interest in Education.
I believe that we should have ongoing programs to educate our members in the many aspects of our contract.
I often do that informally in break room.
I started the FB page Stronger Together in order to help members across the US is RES and Airports to understand our contract from both sides of membership and to support each other in what is important to each workgroup.
I will bring that strength and unity to our local!
