I'm really loving revisiting some of my southern memories and sharing these stories with you. Head over to my Substack to read about the inspiration behind this piece and share a story with me about your family's old trucks. This is a good one!

Are you really a Mississippian if you haven’t been here?

We know it’s going to be there, they know we need stuff and don’t have anywhere else to go. We know it’s going to be boxes open in the aisle, a long line, & your cousins or neighbors gon be there. They know we’ll show up in a bonnet, pajamas, or dirty work boots.

What is it & what are your memories connected to this Mississippi sto’?😂

Absolutely captivated by this still from the Mississippi Creates documentary about my work. A few weeks ago & came to Meridian & Kemper with a big ole camera to follow me around and document my process, teaching, and my day to day life as a Mississippi artist. Y’all, I had them all in the woods, showing them my childhood Dollar General, my granddaddy’s land, how we ride 4wheelers, and my dad HAD to show his garden.😂

If you are in the Oxford, MS area Monday, May 4th, I would love to see you at the screening. My finished DG painting will also be on view. Stay tuned for sneak peaks of the footage here.

Mississippi isn’t an aesthetic. Being southern isn’t a costume we wear and forget about after we take it off. The South is our way of life. It’s a real, unglamourous, down & dirty kinda place but it’s also so fun, wild, peaceful, and slow.

In my Ride Along series, I want people to see the real Mississippi. Three works completed. More coming. Inquire at link.

My work is making a very visible shift since I am getting inspired by my state. I hope you enjoy these new paintings and the writing that goes along with it on my substack. I want viewers to feel like they have an insiders scoop on what it means to be a Mississippian.

Whenever I’m traveling and tell people I’m from Mississippi, I can see the horror stories and stereotypes flash across their face. Southern simplicity is making a comeback but The South is so much more than the Cowboy hat and boots you ordered from Amazon or the latest line dance you learned.

I want to show you the realness and the beauty of my neck of the woods. Ride Along with me.

ALSO!! I’m so excited to share I was chosen for the Mississippi Creates documentary series. Stay tuned (literally) because I’m going to be on a big screen!!🥰 God, is really Godding, this life is so crazy & I am beyond thankful Jesus.🫶🏽🤞🏾
