This morning, Lost Gap Fire & Rescue conducted truck familiarization training and spent some time preparing one of our members for upcoming skills testing at the Mississippi State Fire Academy.

We went over 2 minute drills and worked on getting each skill down safely, correctly, and within the required time.

Training like this is about repetition, preparation, and being ready when it counts. Good work this morning.

At approximately 11:00 AM, Lost Gap Fire & Rescue and Meehan Fire & Rescue were dispatched to assist Newton County with mutual aid for a reported possible 18 wheeler fire on the I 20 eastbound 121 MM on ramp.

Units responded and arrived on scene to find no active fire. Crews remained on scene until cleared by Mississippi Highway Patrol.

This is what mutual aid is all about. When a neighboring department needs help, we don’t look at county lines, department names, or whose call it is. We answer the call and stand ready to help.

Different departments. Different counties. One mission. When our neighbors need us, we show up.

At approximately 0700, Lost Gap Fire & Rescue was dispatched to N Lakeland Dr and Morgan Rd for a single vehicle MVA involving a power pole.

Upon arrival, crews assessed the driver and turned patient care over to Metro Ambulance, who transported the driver to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Our crews remained on scene assisting Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office with traffic control while EMEPA worked to replace the damaged power pole.

Another morning doing what we do. Respond, help where needed, and keep the scene safe until the job is done.

25 YEARS LATER. NEVER FORGET.

Today, Lost Gap Fire & Rescue honors the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what they were trained to do: run toward the danger and help those who needed them. They were fathers, husbands, sons, brothers, friends and members of firehouses just like ours.

We also honor the law enforcement officers, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers and countless innocent people who never made it home.

As first responders, we understand what it means when the tones drop and we leave our families behind to answer the call. September 11 reminds us why we do what we do, why brotherhood matters, and why we look out for the person beside us.

25 years later, their sacrifice still matters.

Never Forget.
