8 years ago this sweet young lady came into my shop and walked straight into my heart. I remember after McKenna left thinking that I will never forget her beautiful smile and gentle soul. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever see her again. But then the following year she came back to the shop and this time she was on a mission. Apparently she loved the shop so much she asked for a to spend at the store. I was very surprised by this because I don’t sell children’s clothing. That didn’t matter to McKenna! (See last photo) Again she left and I wasn’t sure I’d see her again. But thankfully she has family in the area so she has come to see me every year - definitely one of the highlights of my summer.

The first picture was taken at the end of June - I’ve struggled posting this photo because it put closing the shop in a different perspective. The best part of the shop has been meeting all of you!!

When I met McKenna she had just finished kindergarten and now she’s starting high school. McKenna, I wish you all the best in everything you do and know that you will accomplish great things as you are one remarkable young lady. I am forever grateful to your mom for allowing me the honor of getting to know you. I am already looking forward to next summer and seeing you again! 💙🤍🧡

This was the first customer in my shop in 2016. Every year since he stops by this week to purchase a birthday present for his wife Barbara. Chuck, thank you for all of your support over the past 9 seasons.💙🤍🧡

Lake Effect opened 8 years ago this week! 🎉 I am just amazed at how fast the time has gone by. 2024 marks our 9th summer together!

Over the years, I’ve gotten to know so many of you, and I am incredibly grateful for the relationship we’ve built and for your support of my little shop.

That’s why this announcement is so tough: after 9 amazing summer seasons, I’ve decided it’s time to close the Lake Effect storefront.

As you may recall, I retired in 2015 and moved to Meredith. In 2016, with limited shopping options and a desire to meet new people, the idea for Lake Effect was born. Running this shop has been both challenging and rewarding, with the best part being all of you. Many of my dearest friends started as customers.

2023 was a particularly difficult year for me (physically). Although I’m feeling much better, it led me to reconsider my future. I decided I want to start checking off my bucket list and spend more time enjoying the beautiful area I call home. Closing the shop, although difficult, will give me the time to do just that.

For now, you can continue to shop at 51 Main St and online at NHLakeEffect.com. Stay tuned for more details and the shop closing date – don’t worry, it won’t be until September. I hope to see all of you again before we close.

[Please note, that this decision has nothing to do with the building being up for sale. If I wanted, I could have continued to operate at 51 Main St until 2036.]

‘The Breeze by the Bay’ will be opening in downtown (7 Main St.) Meredith, NH this summer! 🩵

There's a new farmers market coming to town! The Meredith Community Market will be held at the Burton Business Park (route 104) on Fridays from 3:30-6:30PM, starting Memorial Day weekend. Featuring local produce, meats, baked goods and artisan crafts. Some vendor spaces are still open and we're seeking new members for our vegetable growers network. The Meredith town vote is Tuesday March 12th at the Community Center 7am-7pm.
Please take a moment to read these 2 warrant articles supported by the Waukewan Watershed Advisory Committee, Windy Waters Conservancy and the Board of LWA. There is no additional cost to Meredith taxpayers and will not affect this year’s tax rate.
Voting “yes” for these to critically important warrant articles will help ensure continued lake quality, help protect town drinking water and give us immediate recourse if Cyanobacteria blooms here.
Please support Articles 3 and 11 when you vote.

Article 3 will fund an updated management plan through a federal loan that historically turns into a DES grant, with the only bill is interest ($1,000 to $2,000 )that will be paid by Windy Water’s Conservancy.

Article 11 will be town funded (funds already collected ) as a mitigation fund for immediate action for Cyanobacteria intervention.
We know how devastating Cyanobacteria is by following the heartbreaking journey of Lake Kanasatka over the last few years.
