Being chosen to do the flowers for a fellow wedding vendor is such an honor. This wedding was from a looong time ago but was one of my absolute favorites. We are really looking forward to doing Kendrick Carothers Simpson ‘s daughter’s wedding on October 31st!
The cake trend right now is the vintage-style Lambeth piping. They are so pretty and elaborate that they don’t need cake flowers. But you can have your cake flowers and eat it too! I took apart some bridesmaid’s bouquets and stick them under this gorgeous cake stand. Voila a small meadow of flowers at the base of the cake. ( I typically am no longer at the wedding at this point but was for this due to a flip .) a planner can do it though. If there is room you can just stick the bouquets under the cake stand .

Fall wedding season is in full swing at the studio. I actually made these arrangements in early summer. So many things bloomed early this year or hardly bloomed at all. Like my favorite thing to forage, which is Queen Anne’s lace when it has gone to seed. It was pretty hard to find this year. Moral of the story is be sure you are registered to vote. Climate change is real. change
One of my favorite things to do is take a flower and manipulate it to look like a totally different flower. I’m not a huge fan of sunflowers but when you remove the petals it transforms into a much more moody textural focal point. Don’t be afraid to play around with inexpensive flowers to create something unique and interesting.
One of the many things I’ve learned over the years as a small business owner and florist is that you may not be for everyone. You can’t please everybody so don’t bother. Just be yourself.
Here’s your reminder that you should go big on bar flowers!! It’s so often not considered as a good place to invest your flower budget. But unlike your ceremony flowers, it is the place your guests are all going to gather and experience up close and will visit over and over. It’s a great backdrop for photos. So if you are wanting that Pinterest worthy wedding photos, I highly recommend a showstopper design on your bar!! PS. You don’t need all the cans and bottle options lined up on the bar. (It’s ugly) Make a pretty menu instead.

Not mentioned- don’t repurpose your bridesmaids bouquets, they will look like crap at the reception -your caterer is not entitled to “EXTRA” flowers -you need a planner.
