I have to tell you about this client of mine!

She came to me with hip pain that was not improving with time, holding her back from simple movements in class, and frustrating her because relief seemed out of reach.

We identified the root cause, created a plan together, and progressed that plan as we saw changes happen.

She was able to return to those movements without issue, IMPROVE in those movements, and set her sights on larger goals. The best part? She now has the tools to stay that way for the long term. How cool!

Imagine that for yourself! Are you ready to get started? DM or contact us below!

Do you have a physically demanding job?

I was asked to discuss back pain related to laborious jobs, and how we might be able to help manage or relieve this.

Each situation is different for the individual, but here are some guiding questions I like to ask in order to move in the right direction!

1) What does your job look like? Are there movements that are commonly associated with pain? Can we modify these or address how they’re being done? Do we need to discuss expectations surrounding the movements as those can influence pain we may have. Sometimes small but consistent changes here can make a huge difference as your work day/week accumulates!

2) What do you do to recover from your workday? A laborious job is physical stress every day, similarly to challenging yourself at the gym. Do you recover as such? Assuring adequate sleep, nutrition & hydration, as well as stress management is key!

3) To aid in recovery and longevity, you might try to incorporate specific mobility or stretches throughout your day to keep yourself feeling good!

4) Do you train for your job? With a laborious job we sometimes assume the physical activity related to work may be all we need. Just as an athlete trains for their event, you may need to add some specific training geared toward your job. When we build resiliency to these demands, they become easier each time we face them!

5) Just as we mentioned expectations above, the way you feel toward your job can actually influence your pain! Do you dread it? Or enjoy it? Can you work on your mindset here? Improving your relationship with your job can go a long way in helping your body feel better while working!

There can be a lot to unpack in these situations, but this can be a good place to start! If this sounds like your current situation, we can help!

When we think of pelvic floor problems, we typically think of leakage when you laugh/sneeze, or challenges presented with and after pregnancy. What we may not think of are things that APPEAR to involve other body regions, but may involve the pelvic floor too.

Things like back pain, hip pain, or tight groin muscles to name a few. Our pelvic floor muscles work closely (both directly and indirectly) with the hips and low back, so tension here can lead to symptoms elsewhere.

These feelings of low back pain/stiffness, deep hip pain, etc. can be signs that you have increased tension in the pelvic floor. One of my first things to talk about in these cases is breathing!

Do you try to consistently breath in your nose? Nasal breathing can aid in using the diaphragm more.

Are you utilizing your diaphragm vs. only breathing into your chest? Using our diaphragm improves mobility of the pelvic floor.

How does this change when you exercise? Diaphragmatic breathing becomes harder with increased intensity.

Additionally, do you find yourself clenching through your butt cheeks, thighs, or lower belly? This tension can create tension in the pelvic floor.

These are all things to take into account when it comes to pelvic floor tension, and can go a long way in reduction of it as well as improved symptoms through the hips and low back!

Tune in, and see if you can make some positive changes here!

Per your feedback, we want more info on the pelvic floor and pelvic floor PT! We’ll start with giving a little info on what the pelvic floor is.

The pelvic floor is essentially a ‘sling’ of muscles spanning from your tailbone to p***c bone. They function in supporting internal pelvic organs, maintaining appropriate sphincter control, providing stability and support to the hips and low back, and play a role in s*xual function.

Common signs of dysfunction of the pelvic floor can be leakage, back or hip pain, pain with pe*******on, constipation, prolapse, and more.

Problems with pelvic floor function are commonly assumed to be related to pregnancy. While they can be, there are many people who face these challenges without ever having been pregnant - or are of the s*x that can’t become pregnant!

The pelvic floor has some unique qualities relative to the rest of our body; and because of that should be addressed as so in physical therapy and rehab!

A pelvic floor PT can help guide this appropriately - and we do that!
