Today and tonight we're experiencing our coldest day since...well the Nor'easter, but as far as dry and as chilly we gotta go all the way back to May 3rd.

Though a warm up is on the way, as winds shift. Mid to Upper 70s are possible for Thursday with some scattered showers possible. After that seasonable to above average temperatures will dominate throughout the weekend.

September looks to be seasonable for this time of year, as we're now currently in our driest month of the year. After a humid tomorrow and Thursday, with a shower chance for Thursday. Mid to Upper 70s with low humidity should dominate through the weekend, as summer slowly eases it's grip.

Some long range finally show chilly weather near the Canadian border up north. Fall is on our doorstep!

While we may see a scattered storm, or downpour tomorrow and Thursday. Flash flooding will be most prominent for Friday. I think this could occur in the afternoon and evening, and 1-3" inches could fall in localized areas.

Keep a heads up if you're traveling on Friday!

Today we have a lot of severe weather going on. We already seen reports of some flash flooding and severe warned storms in the Hudson Valley. Similar to Saturday, many locations will see multiple rounds of storms.

Flash Flooding is the biggest concerned as there is a similar amount of moisture today to that of Florida or the Tropics. So some cells may stay in one place and unload a ton of rain. Gusty Winds and a lot of lightning is also a primary concern today.

A weak tornado and some hail cannot be ruled out, but a tornado is hard to get over here and the atmosphere might not have enough dry air in it for hail development.

Smoke on the water! Fire in the sky!

Is the song I usually think about with today. It's supposed to be Partly Cloudy outside but due to the smoke, it just looks cloudy with a smell of a campfire outside.

The worst of it will be the hours before sunset across New Jersey and overnight tonight.

Friday afternoon our area may receive a small break from the smoke before the smoky cloudiness returns Saturday (even though it'll actually be cloudy without the smoke due to some late morning to afternoon storms moving through.)

Though the last of it will clear out by Saturday night it looks like.

Today though we do have a storm threat across New Jersey. The storm moving from North to South. Wind damage may be a beast, due to the dry air. 50-70 mph gusts possible and power outages shouldn't be ruled out. There will be no shortage of lightning and a few minutes of pea sized hail is possible.

Flash flooding will NOT be a feature because of the fast moving nature of these storms, and the tornado risk is near zero.

The occasional lightning strike and some gusty winds are possible. Flash flooding is the main concern. 3-5" inches of rain is possible in parts of the Hudson Valley and NWNJ. 0.25-1" possible for everyone else. Soupy air.

Nature fireworks tonight? VERY STORMY AND BRUTALLY HOT JULY 4TH WEEKEND!

Thunderstorms have formed in NWPA currently and are expected to move SW into New Jersey this evening near sundown.

Winds are expected to be 50-70 mph for any severe warn storms. Due to our hot surfaces, winds will have to work extra hard to cool us down. Due to the dry layer, very frequent lightning will occur, and the sky will light up like a disco ball the moment the sun goes down.

Small hail is moderate and I don't think we'll get a tornado. But severe downdrafts could still knock out power.

July 4th looks more of the same. With temperatures near 100, and heat indexes near a sweltering 105-110. But for firework shows, and celebrating our countries 250th, evening storms will once again occur. Though the risk is even worse for firework shows...flash flooding since these storms look more saturated, and more instability based. Though frequent lightning and microburst winds are possible with severe storms.

DANGEROUS HEAT FOR THURSDAY & FRIDAY. HOTTEST DAY OF ALL TIME FOR OUR AREA? COULD BE A TOP 5 AT LEAST...

Just like that song from the 80s. The heat is on. Rivaling one of the hottest days of all time. Thursday and Friday temperatures around New Jersey will be well into the triple digits. While locations may be a few degrees shy of the all time record, Philadelphia's record all time is 106F and a few models has...106F for Friday.

The humidity will make Triple Digit real feels practically everywhere and 110s real feel for Central & Southern Jersey.
