It’s October! That means it’s time for our next book club recommendation:

In Anxiety Rx, Dr. Russell Kennedy reframes anxiety not as a mental puzzle to solve, but as an “alarm” held directly within physical tissues.

He asserts that we spend immense energy trying to think our way out of fear, but cognitive analysis cannot settle a body that feels unsafe.

When we stop analyzing the thoughts and instead bring gentle attention to the raw physical sensations in our chest, solar plexus, or throat, we address the alarm at its root.

Have you read it? What are your thoughts?

Interoception is our ability to perceive internal bodily sensations.

Heartbeat, muscle tension, gut constriction, and breathing depth.

It is the foundation of genuine boundary work.

When we ignore these subtle physical cues, we bypass our body’s natural guidance system, forcing ourselves into overcommitment and eventual burnout before our conscious mind even notices the strain.

If this sounds familiar, there are some subtle steps to start reconnecting, like a 60-Second Interoceptive Scan:

Before saying “yes” to a new obligation, close your eyes and scan your torso. Note whether your stomach feels open or restricted.

Let that physical feedback guide your decision.

Happy Monday 🤗 A reminder as we jump into the weekly grind.

We readily budget our financial resources, yet we treat our biological energy as infinite.

Capacity Accounting is the clinical practice of evaluating your available nervous system energy before agreeing to new obligations.

Having open space on a digital calendar does not mean you have the internal, biological fuel required to execute the task without entering a state of depletion.

Energy Budgeting: Before accepting a request, evaluate two metrics:

1) Clock time required
2) Biological energy cost.

If the energy cost exceeds your current capacity, practice delaying your response without guilt.

What are your big plans this week?

The idea of slowing down for the weekend can actually trigger anxiety when your nervous system is wired for survival. If sitting still or resting feels uncomfortable right now, there is a reason for that.

Rest requires feeling safe first.

If you’re navigating high alertness or stuck in an anxiety loop this weekend, focus on tiny physical shifts to help break that pattern instead of trying to force yourself to relax:

• Feel your feet flat on the floor. Take off your shoes and spread your toes.
• Change your temperature: e.g. wrap your hands around a hot mug, take a hot/cold shower, or dunk your face in a bowl of ice water.
• Step outside for a moment to change your immediate environment. Take a five minute walk, you don’t need a destination.
• Trill, hum, practice ‘lions-breath’, or blow raspberries with your lips to help release tension in your face and unclench your jaw.

Healing happens at the pace of safety.

Today is the official last day of summer! Even if it still feels like peak August outside, the shift is happening.

We’re in the thick of a transition today before fall officially lands tomorrow.

It’s a gentle reminder that change can take its time. That transitions can be slow and steady, and just because you can’t feel the chill yet doesn’t mean the change isn’t happening. 🫶

Chronically feeling overwhelmed isn’t a personal failing. More likely, it’s a sign of environmental friction.

When work, family logistics, and daily life overlap, they create a compounding load that exceeds normal capacity.

Your distress isn’t proof that you’re incapable; it’s proof that your environment is overflowing.

Many people in a state of overwhelmed are operating on autopilot. Getting through the day without any time to assess the stress points.

Try an Ecosystem Audit: Map your week’s commitments on paper. Group them by category, pinpoint where demands overlap, and focus on streamlining your environment rather than forcing yourself to ”try harder.”

Share this with someone carrying a heavy load right now.

As many of you already know, September is National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.

This is a topic near and dear to many of our hearts here in the office, and we wanted to add our voice to the conversation.

Unresolved trauma, substance abuse, and other co-occurring disorders can make life feel impossibly heavy. But carrying that weight isn’t a journey you have to walk alone; seeking help is a sign of immense strength.

A call, a text, an attempt to reach out; that’s not a small thing.

Connection keeps people alive.

Through specialized trauma and addiction care, alongside our community-conscious GRIT program, (which connects healing with purpose through local service therapy) we are dedicated to building meaningful connections that save lives.

Feeling more exhausted now than when the back-to-school rush first started? You aren’t imagining it, and you aren’t sliding backward.

During high-demand periods, e.g. navigating schedule changes, launching new routines, or managing early autumn logistics (as we have been doing lately), your body relies on active adrenaline to keep up.

It drives focus, sharpens urgency, and helps you power through the initial chaos.

But once those routines finally settle into place, that adrenaline surge recedes.

What is left behind is nervous system depletion. 📉

When the body steps down from high-alert survival mode, the true physical tax of sustained effort becomes visible. It is a completely normal physiological response to prolonged output.

Your system is simply demanding the recovery time it deferred weeks ago!

When peak fatigue sets in, pushing through with more coffee or harsher discipline drains an already empty tank.

Try these two practical adjustments instead:

1. Practice Micro-Pacing: Build 5-minute “zero-input” buffer periods between tasks. Close your eyes, put down your phone, and let your body register that it is temporarily off the clock

2. Audit Non-Essential Demands: Identify one commitment on your weekly list that can be paused, delegated, or simplified.

Match your output expectations to your current biological capacity, not your peak adrenaline capacity.

Save this post if you have been feeling depleted and need a reminder to slow your pace.

September 11 is a reminder of how quickly life can change and the deep, lasting impact of loss.

Behind the historical magnitude of the day are real individuals, families, and communities whose lives were altered forever.

Today, on the 25th anniversary, we hold space for those who were lost, honor their memory, and recognize the quiet weight many continue to carry in their own way.
