Adult Day Programs
ABLE (Manteca), PLUS (Manteca), and Modesto, California Valley CAPS is a nonprofit corporation 501(c) (3).

In 1976, three Manteca residents led by Alice Valverde, met to plan for the future of their children. They had a common interest: each one had an adult child with developmental disabilities. They approached the Manteca Kiwanis Club who after listening to their needs, gave the parents of these children $3000 in seed money to help begin their dream of having a safe, loving environment from which their children could grow and develop those skills needed to become happy and productive members of our society. The City of Manteca, along with the Manteca Fire Department, donated some space in a local fire house by moving the fire trucks closer together, placing a small partition in a corner, a table, a few chairs, a few games and with that, Valley CAPS (Center for Advanced Personal Success) was started. Nearly forty-five years later, Valley CAPS (Center for Advanced Personal Success) operates five adult day programs throughout California’s Central Valley. Valley CAPS is proud to be a leading Day Program provider for adults living with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) while maintaining a steadfast commitment to the founders original mission statement, “Create a program that provides a safe, nurturing environment from which individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities can grow and develop the needed skills, on their terms, to become happy and productive members of society.” Valley CAPS provides a place for adults to participate in life and independent living skills, engage in social activities in the community, and participate in determining their future “on their terms.”

Our dedicated team of employees work with each Consumer to embrace and foster their pursuit of growth, independence, dignity, and choice.

✨Staff spotlight: Taylor
Taylor has been working at Valley CAPS for 2 years. She is an Area Coordinator and also a Registered Behavioral Technician. Her favorite thing about working at Valley CAPS is the participants. In the next 5 years she sees herself working as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst here af Valley CAPS. Taylor is continuing her education, attending WGU to obtain her Bachelors in Education. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her three children.

“Taylor recently put in a lot of hard work studying for and passing her CRBT certification! Since getting certified, she has really grown into her role. It has been awesome to watch her skills and confidence skyrocket every single day, especially in the ways she supports the participants we serve. Her growth directly translates to better care and experiences for everyone. Taylor is a massive asset to the Valley CAPS family and we are so lucky to have her on the team!” -Nathan Ayala (APD)

✨Participant spotlight: Nitnem

Nitnem has attended valley CAPS program for 3.5 years and says he loves it! His favorite memory from program was when he was elected as the Self Advocacy President, the first year he ran he didn’t get it, but he didn’t give up and ran again and this time he won. Another favorite memory was when he received a perfect attendance award at program. Outside of program he enjoys listening to music, watching tv, and spending time with his family.

“Nitnem is a great Self Advocate. Nitnem uses a wheelchair and shared with staff that he felt unsafe maneuvering his wheelchair over the rough terrain on an area of the sidewalk. Staff assisted him with finding the City of Manteca Website and making a concern / complaint about the sidewalk and the need of repair. A week later the sidewalk was repaired. Way to go, this is what it is all about! Advocating for ourselves and others!” -Rachelle (APD)

“He continues to show enthusiasm while working towards his goals and the ability to brighten the day of his peers and staff.” -Angela (PS)

Valley CAPS was honored to be a of part of the 24th Annual Remembrance Ceremony at Park View
Cemetery.
This event is brought together by advocates, community members, and families to remember those who lived in institutions.
At Park View cemetery in Manteca there are 2,284 cremated remains of those who died at Modesto State Hospital and Stockton State Hospital.
It is important that we remember their life, stories, and the impact that they have left on our community.
We remember that those 2,284 are not forgotten, they mattered and are remembered. We remember so that our horrible history is not repeated. May those buried in unmarked graves and whos stories we may never know guide us to a better tomorrow.
