Why Are There Different Polyurethane Foam Densities? | HMI Company 08/13/2026

Why so many different foam densities?

Because a sidewalk and a highway aren’t the same job.

Sure, 2 lb foam can lift concrete. But lifting the slab is only part of the job. What that foam needs to handle after it cures matters too.

That’s where different densities come in.

Higher density doesn’t automatically mean better. It means you’ve got another tool in the toolbox.

We break it down here:

Why Are There Different Polyurethane Foam Densities? | HMI Company Learn why polyurethane foams come in different densities and how contractors match foam density to the demands of residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure concrete lifting projects.

Lift it. Fill it. Stabilize it.

From sidewalks to highways, HMI has the equipment and materials to help you lift settled concrete, fill voids, and stabilize soil without tearing it all out and starting over

The Chemistry That Makes Foam Grow 08/07/2026

How does a small amount of liquid turn into a solid block of rigid polyurethane foam?

It all comes down to chemistry. A reaction creates millions of tiny CO₂ bubbles, causing the foam to rapidly expand and take shape.

See the science in action here:

A big thank you to Char and everyone at HMI who donated school supplies for families affected by the Menasha tornado.

It's great to see our team step up and help out when our community needs it. We hope these supplies help make back-to-school a little easier for the kids and families getting back on their feet.

Proud to be part of a team that's always willing to lend a hand.

What Does “2 lb” Polyurethane Foam Actually Mean? | HMI Company 08/04/2026

Think "2 lb foam" means the foam weighs 2 pounds? Think again.

One of the biggest misconceptions in polyurethane concrete lifting is what "2 lb foam" actually means; and it can impact the way you compare products.

We break down foam density and why the numbers on the label don't tell the whole story.

Check out our Blog:

What Does “2 lb” Polyurethane Foam Actually Mean? | HMI Company Learn what 2 lb, 3 lb, and 4 lb polyurethane foam really mean. Understand foam density, expansion, compressive strength, and why choosing the right formulation matters for concrete lifting.

On this hotel expansion project, an engineering design firm called for chemical grouting due to identified loose soils beneath the existing hotel’s footings that needed to be stabilized before excavation could be completed.

Using HMI Soil Link Acrylate Grout, the sheet pile contractor stabilized the loose granular soils and kept the project on schedule. Better yet, instead of subcontracting the grouting, they kept more of the project revenue by performing the service themselves.

If you're already installing, repairing, or working around sheet pile walls, bulkheads, or waterfront structures, give us a call to learn how to add chemical grouting services to your business.

Dairy Farm Carousel Stabilized Without Downtime 07/16/2026

When the ground won't hold, you don't always have to dig it up.

This Wisconsin project had settlement beneath a milking carousel foundation, but shutting down the operation wasn't an option.

Using HMI HS030 single-component grout, the crew strengthened the soils beneath the foundation in less than a day.
