Join AIA NE WI for a presentation on the movement in brick and other materials

This program examines how environmental and building design factors influence the performance of movement joints in brick veneer systems. Participants will learn how conditions such as temperature variation, moisture, and structural interaction affect joint location, spacing, and detailing. Through case studies, the course highlights both successful and problematic approaches to movement joint design. Key distinctions between movement joint strategies in structural brick and brick veneer systems will also be explored.

Presented by Douglas Baxter, Bricks Incorporated + Fenestration Solutions, Inc.

The course will be held at various locations and dates through NE Wisconsin:

In light of the devastating weather events that impacted the Menasha and Appleton area on June 27, AIA Wisconsin is hosting a virtual refresher for architects interested in supporting post-disaster response efforts through the

This session will review the fundamentals of post-disaster building evaluations, safety assessment procedures, and deployment protocols to help ensure trained volunteers are prepared should assistance be requested in affected communities. Whether you are new to Disaster Response or already SAP-trained and certified, this timely session offers an opportunity to learn how architects can play a critical role in helping communities recover safely and efficiently after a disaster.

Join AIA Milwaukee for a tour of Vista Village Wauwatosa Apartments!

Located on an elevated site in the heart of The Village of Wauwatosa, the design of Vista Village draws inspiration from the rich architectural heritage of the surrounding neighborhood while providing 153 new residences to a vibrant downtown. Through the use of scale, massing, and materials, the architecture balances between a sensitivity to the historical context while at the same time asserting itself into the community as a contemporary addition.

This tour offers members an exclusive opportunity to experience the project alongside the design team during its final stages of completion. Attendees will gain firsthand insight into how decisions surrounding landscape design, material selection, and faรงade detailing are refined and executed as the project nears occupancy. The tour will also provide an opportunity for open dialogue with the architects, exploring the challenges, opportunities, and critical decisions that shape a large-scale residential development in its final phase. Ideal for design professionals, this event offers a unique look at the process of carrying a complex project from concept through completion.

Post-Tour Happy Hour: Tour participants are invited to attend a post-tour happy hour at Draft & Vessel (Tosa) to enjoy networking and socializing, generously co-sponsored by Three Leaf Partners and Catalyst Construction.

Although nearly complete, parts of the tour may traverse active areas of construction, therefore PPE is required (hard hat, safety vest, and hard sole/closed toe footwear).

Last Friday, AIA Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Architects Foundation welcomed volunteer leaders from across the state to the Friends of Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center for our annual Long Range Planning Retreat. This important gathering provides an opportunity for board members, section officers, and committee leaders to step away from their day-to-day responsibilities and focus on the bigger pictureโ€”reflecting on our mission, evaluating progress and discussing priorities that will help guide the future of our organizations.

This year's retreat also included a dedicated session for the Wisconsin Architects Foundation, led by Helene Combs Dreiling, FAIA, a nationally recognized expert in organizational transformation, who helped the Foundation refine its mission and chart a path forward. Thank you to all of our volunteer leaders for their time, insight and commitment to shaping the future of AIA Wisconsin and WAF.
