Name: Brandon Boyd (1773)
Hometown: Watertown, WI
Major: Agronomy and Agricultural Business Management

Title: Insight FS Precision Technology Intern

Details: At Insight FS this summer some of Brandon’s tasks were to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into business to help both employees and customers using their new AI chat tool in their MyFS Agronomy app, working with and using customer data to help make agronomic decisions, make reports for growers throughout the season so they can see the season progress of their operation, and help with the many agronomy needs of customers including crop scouting and data retrieval.

One thing learned: AI might be a leading Segway into many new possibilities in the world of crop farming!

Name: Reyes Murillo (1813)
Hometown: Madison, WI
Major: Agricultural Business Management

Title: Research Intern/Agriculture Technician

Details: At Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Japan, Reyes had the privilege of assisting with multiple research projects focused on bovine reproduction while also conducting his own experiments aimed at improving in vitro fertilization (IVF) rates in Japanese Black Wagyu and Holstein cattle. Equally rewarding was the agricultural technician portion, where he spent time caring for cattle, supporting daily farm operations, and gaining firsthand experience in livestock management.

One thing learned: The most important thing Reyes learned was the value of combining scientific research with hands-on experience to improve cattle production.

Name: Isaac Ziebarth (1812)
Hometown: Arena, WI
Major: Agronomy and Dairy and Food Animal Management

Title: Agronomy Operations Intern

Details: Isaac is working at Premier Co-op this summer, where he has been focusing on helping farmers produce high quality crops. Two main areas he focuses on are crop scouting and nutrient application. He has scouted many acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and more, observing disease, pest control, fertilizer, and also driving trucks.

One thing learned: Isaac has learned that in order to maintain loyal customers, high quality work and a great reputation is necessary.

Name: Brian Styer (1786)
Hometown: Menomonie, WI
Major: Agricultural Business Management

Title: Dairy Business Consulting Intern

Details: Brian gets to ride along to on-farm meetings with producers, assist with data entry and analysis, and work on various projects to enhance report integral uses.

One thing learned: Brian has learned that there is no right way to run a dairy farm. Everyone uses different techniques and slightly different practices to successfully manage and operate the farm. Brain states that it was cool to see and compare and contrast between different operations!

This past week, a few brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho, alongside sisters of the Association of Women in Agriculture, were fortunate enough to participate in and help with the return of Badger Dairy Camp! These individuals helped all week long as counselors, teachers, and friends to students from all around the United States!

From scavenger hunts and informational sessions, to hands-on learning and a dairy judging skillathon, our brothers and sisters displayed leadership and showcased what being a CALS student at UW-Madison is really like!

We want to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Laura Hernandez, AWA alumnus Megan Lauber, AGR alumnus Eric Ronk, and the many volunteers who gave their time to put on such a prestigious and extraordinary event!

Not only did members act as leaders, but they also were able to learn new things! We are extremely thankful for the return of this event and cannot wait to see where it will head in the future!

Congratulations to brothers Brian Styer and Mark Arndt for bringing back a National NAMA Title this week! Both brothers dedicated their time to analyzing and creating a few year marketing plan and exceeding expectations. AGR is extremely proud of your involvement and perseverance! Congrats, again!

WHAT. A. DAY.

Alpha Gamma Rho - Iota chapter put on its annual Founder’s Day event this past weekend. This included a few business meetings with both alumni, board members, and current collegiate members all in attendance. Many important aspects of our chapter, house, and all we have to offer were discussed, as well as solutions for improvements and more. Following the business meetings and a wonderful lunch from the chef was the presentation of scholarships.

The scholarship banquet was indeed a success, as many scholarships were given to almost all members of the chapter. In addition to this, new board members were recognized, and brotherhood was shared between members new and old. We extend a huge thank you to brothers Nick Needham, Gage Anderson, Zach Lieven, Richard Daluge, Matt Olson, and Anson Goldade for helping put on such a wonderful event.

Al’s a huge thank you to the alumni who were able to attend, as well as current members in attendance. Congratulations to all who received a scholarship, and continue to do what we do best: Make Better Men!
