✨ Learning Doesn't Stop at the Office ✨

One of the things I enjoy most about professional growth is that it doesn't only happen at work.

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me with a good book 📚, cheering on my son at football games and track meets 🏈🏃, exploring a new hiking trail (I just got back from Hocking Hills, Ohio!), or taking care of my ever-growing collection of houseplants. 🪴

Tonight, I'll be attending a Propel behind-the-scenes tour at XRoads41 with other young professionals. I'm looking forward to learning more about a local organization, making new connections, and seeing things from different perspectives.

Experiences like this are a great reminder that growth doesn't only happen in conference sessions or classrooms. Sometimes it comes from stepping outside your routine, trying something new, and connecting with people from different industries and backgrounds.

✨ The Opportunity That Changed My Career ✨

As I get ready for my first WISHRM Conference in person, I can't help but reflect on how I got here.

When I was in college, I tried to take advantage of every opportunity to grow personally and professionally. One of those opportunities was receiving the Callie Zipple Scholarship in 2022.

In my scholarship application, I shared how I had changed career paths during the pandemic after realizing I could still fulfill my passion for helping people—just in a different way. Human Resources gave me that opportunity, and I've never looked back.

Looking back, I'm grateful to WISHRM for investing in students and emerging HR professionals. The Callie Zipple Scholarship was more than just financial support—it was encouragement to continue pursuing a career I truly love.

I'm looking forward to continuing that journey at and connecting with others who are passionate about the HR profession.

💙 Everyone has a different path into HR. Did you always know this was where you belonged, or did your career take an unexpected turn?

✨ My First In-Person Conference ✨

I've attended the WISHRM Conference virtually before, but this October will be my first time attending in person—and I can't wait!

One of the things I love most about HR is that there's always something new to learn. I'm looking forward to hearing from inspiring speakers, connecting with professionals from across Wisconsin, and finally experiencing the energy of WISHRM in person.

As a member of the 2026 WISHRM SMILE Team, I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my journey leading up to the conference and throughout the event. I know I'll come away with new ideas, fresh perspectives, and connections that will make me a better HR professional.

I'm Jennifer Mayer, taking over your feed for the day! I'm ready to get everyone even more excited for ! This will actually be my first in-person WISHRM Conference, so I'm looking forward to learning, meeting new people, and experiencing everything the conference has to offer!

A little about me: I'm an HR Generalist with Winnebago County, an adjunct instructor at UW–Oshkosh teaching Organizational Behavior, the Marketing Chair for Community for Hope, a Propel Advisory Committee member, and a proud member of the 2026 WISHRM SMILE Team.

My mornings usually start one of two ways: walking my three dogs with my boyfriend or squeezing in a workout at the gym. 🐶💪 Then it's off to drop my son off at football or school, followed by the most important stop of the morning—Starbucks. ☕ (Coffee counts as breakfast, right? 😅) By 7:15 AM, I'm at my desk and ready for whatever HR has in store.
