We've been making cheese before Wisconsin was a state and with a heritage of quality and innovation, it's no surprise people have been asking for our cheese since the 1940s! Today, the best way to find Wisconsin dairy is to look for the Proudly Wisconsin badges. Show us your best selection of Wisconsin cheese to celebrate and Wisconsin's pride.

Limburger cheese, famous for its distinctive smell, is only made in one factory in the United States today, down the road from Mineral Point at Chalet Cheese Co-op in Monroe, Wisconsin. Far more cheese factories used to make Limburger around the turn of the 20th century in Wisconsin, and at this time, there were at least three Limburger producers right here in Mineral Point—John Altman, John Dietrich, and the Patterson cheese factory. In 1910, there were Limburger cheese factories scattered over Iowa, Green, Lafayette, Grant, Dodge, Columbia, La Crosse, Trempeauleau, and Buffalo Counties.
Click on the link to see a close up of this map of cheese factories and creameries in Wisconsin in 1918. At its height in 1922, Wisconsin had nearly 3,000 cheese factories. Today that number is around 130, including Hook's Cheese a few blocks from us. https://wihist.org/3dohiRz

Have you tried our newly developed cheese??
Pannaro is a Gouda/Parmesan blend that would work nicely as a table cheese or shredded on your favorite pizza!
A young Pinot Noir red wine with fruity undertones would compliment this cheese nicely!
