I've debated all night whether to post anything about the situation in FL regarding a dog hoarder.
****VIDEO AT END OF POST - WATCH AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION****
I know this person or at least I did at one time. Our paths crossed in the world of border collies. Her primary interest was in the conformation ring so not *my* kind of border collies but her dogs were well cared for and immaculately groomed. I believe she also put a MACH on at least one of her dogs.
It is easy to say "throw her in jail" and I don't necessarily disagree but somewhere / somehow things went terribly wrong for Paige. She and a friend of mine co-chaired the Border Collie Nationals many years ago - I was there competing. Paige loved the breed and was proud of her accomplishments.
As a society it seems that we fail and fail again to provide the mental health support people may need. I don't have any answer other than tragedies such as this do not need to happen. In her case she abused dogs. In other cases there are mass shootings. What are the answers???

Is your dog beyond the foundational level, and ready for more? If so, this class is perfect for you! This class is designed for teams that have solid foundations and are looking to improve their handling skills, timing, and ex*****on.
This class will utilize exercises that focus on ex*****on and handling of common agility challenges such as front, rear, and blind crosses, sends, collection, and obstacle commitment. The goal of this class is to help teams improve their teamwork and confidence (both dog and handler) while beginning to navigate harder courses and handling situations.
Exercises in this class will be designed to help handlers refine their mechanics while building the dogâs independence and skills. This class is ideal for teams that are already competing, or close to competing.
Prerequisites: Sequences MAY include contacts and weaves, but they can be skipped as needed. Dogs should already be sequencing.

SCENT WORK workshop w/ Deb Joseph
July 25 3-5pm $35
This is a follow up* workshop to our "A Scent Work Sampler" in which we introduced our dogs to an odor source. That odor was contained in a paint can or electrical box and we rewarded our dogs heavily for showing interest in the vessel containing the odor. Further we showed them that we liked them to sniff odor vessels placed in different locations and that we did not care about cans and boxes without odor.
Now it time to take things a step further and encourage our dogs to search for the odor. In this afternoon of sniffing we will use horizontal and vertical puzzles to encourage our dogs to search for the odor source when it location is not visually obvious.
Email Ann if you would like a spot in this workshop.
* If your dog has nose work experience and is on odor you are eligible for this workshop.
