Have you registered for our AARP Driving Course? It will take place Friday, October 2 at 12:30 pm at the Community Center, 7454 Old Canton Road. There is a cost, but you may qualify for a percentage off of your insurance premium! Contact Lisa Valadie at 601-573-0756 to register.

You don't want to miss Pinktober at Ethel’s Place Memory Café on October 7. We will have:
- a balloon artist (all pink balloons)
- a homeschool singing group
- the Department of Rehabilitation Services who will set up their fall assessment machine so that everyone can check their fall risk and receive feedback.

This monthly program is for individuals living with memory loss and their caregivers. Hosts are AARP Mississippi, CMPDD, and Madison the City Retirement Program. Refreshments will be provided by Home Instead and ACG Hospice.

Time is 10:30 am - 12:30 pm at the Community Center, 7454 Old Canton Rd.

MEET OUR GRAND MARSHAL!!

We’re excited to announce that Master Potter Robert Pickenpaugh will lead the Scarecrow Stroll on Saturday, October 10—and he’s ready to scare up some fun!

Put on your best non-scary scarecrow costume and follow Mr. Pickenpaugh through downtown Madison. The Stroll begins at 3:00 p.m. on Main Street at the railroad, winds through the residential and retail areas of The Village at Madison, and finishes at the Business Network parking lot at 2023 Main Street.

Join the parade on foot—or get creative! Walk on stilts; ride a bicycle, tricycle, unicycle, scooter, wheelchair, golf cart, skateboard, or battery-powered kiddie car; or push a stroller or pull a wagon.

🚫 No cars, trucks, Gators, horses, or four-wheelers, please.
🐶 Dogs are welcome—and we would love to see them dressed to strut their stuff!

But don’t wander off after the Stroll! Stick around and serve as a judge for the Scarecrow Tailgate Showdown cooking competition from 3:30–5:00 p.m.

🏆 Awards for the Scarecrow Stroll, Tailgate Showdown, and Scarecrow Decorating Contest will be presented at 5:00 p.m.

Make your plans to learn about an important new Medicare Program, GUIDE, on September 22.

The Medicare GUIDE Program is a new Medicare benefit designed to help people living with dementia remain safely at home while also supporting their family caregivers. The program provides care coordination, caregiver education and support, and—when eligible—respite care at no additional cost to the Medicare beneficiary.

Mike Davis, president of Covenant Caregivers, will present the program.

What a beautiful program at Ethel’s Place Memory Café today!

Heartstring led the group in beloved old-fashioned hymns and shared a rollicking tale about how the possum got its hairless tail. The Ethel’s Place Café Choir joined in with favorite gospel hymns, filling the Community Center with joyful music. The woodland-themed decorations and craft added a special touch, and the fox and park rangers were a big hit!

Ethel's Place Memory Cafe meets monthly at the Community Center as a welcoming gathering for individuals living with memory loss and their caregivers. Each meeting features engaging activities, light refreshments and connection opportunities. The next meeting will be October 7 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm with a Pikntober theme. Hosts are Madison the City Retirement Program, AARP Mississippi, and Central Mississippi Planning and Development District.
