This Sunday! Let’s gather to sing…for our souls…for joy…for resistance! All are welcome to join their voices together! Here’s a few FAQs about the event:
SINGING RESISTANCE MACON FAQs
Q: What is Singing Resistance?
A: Singing Resistance is building a national, mass movement of singers to protect and care for our communities in the face of rising authoritarianism. Singing Resistance is a loving entry point for many people, including those who are new to social movements and activism.
Q: What is Singing Resistance Macon?
A: We are engaged neighbors across Middle Georgia who want to be part of the national Singing Resistance movement. Singing Resistance is a decentralized organizing effort without a formal leadership structure.
Q: If there isn’t formal leadership, who is hosting this event?
A: A mash-up of neighbors [Erin Robinson-Hall, Krystle Moraska, Lisa Hargrove, Elizabeth Lott, Sara Pugh Montgomery] with input from some middle Georgia faith communities [Faith Lutheran, High Street UUC, and Centenary UMC].
Q: When is the first Singing Resistance Macon event?
A: Sunday, June 7, 5:00 p.m. (doors open at 4:30 p.m.) at High St. Unitarian Universalist Church [1085 High St. Macon, Ga. 31201]
Q: What else do I need to know about getting to High Street UU?
A: You can park in library parking lot or throughout the neighborhood and enter through the side door. High St. UU’s sanctuary is accessible by elevator inside the building.
Q: Is this for grown-ups only?
A: Not at all. Singing Resistance is open to the whole family. Please note: no childcare is provided. Children will remain with their parents/guardians.
Q: I love music but am not really a singer. Can I still come?
A: Absolutely! You do not have to be a formal singer to attend. We will learn songs together by singing together. Songs will be sung in English and Spanish
Q: How much does admission cost?
A: Admission is FREE, but we’d love an RSVP to help with planning.

South Georgia’s Annual Conference is in the books! Together we made some historic votes including a 96% affirming vote to unify with North Georgia! Throughout our Annual Conference we remembered the past and listened for the vision of the future together - one where people of all ages, genders, races, and sexuality serve God through ordination and full participation in the church and the world. As our conference lay leader - Scott Cleveland - said, “Hell is life without empathy.” So how can we listen more with God’s ears, and God’s heart, and see with God’s eyes?
We were grateful to host The Foundry gathering at Centenary this morning and raise $1,400 for CCMI! Today we also honored Rev Gary Starret and Rev Tim Bagwell (who couldn’t come down from Virginia) for their 50 years of service to the church. We celebrated women’s right to ordination 70 years ago and the beginning of the order of Deacons 30 years ago. Three new congregations - including MOSAIC UMC in Valdosta that we helped support - were officially constituted as new founding congregations! What a conference! Many thanks to all of our Centenary community who took part in Annual Conference!

Coal Country shared their wonderful gifts of music and storytelling with us this Sunday as we began our sermon series on Leaders That Inspire. The words of Saint Julian of Norwich enhanced the songs and stories, grounding us in the goodness and the love of God. A link to purchase tickets to the play Coal Country will be in the comments. The play is going to support our nonprofit, Centenary Community Ministries Inc, and the work of building community, hope and resiliency for our neighbors. The play will run the first two weeks of June on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:30pm and is $10/person.
