In June of last year, Dustin was critically injured while directing traffic when a driver suffered a medical emergency.

What followed was more than a year of fighting, praying, and holding on through unimaginable uncertainty.

Through it all, there was love.

Steady, fierce, and unshakable love from his wife, Emily, who never left his side.

Emily shared that Dustin passed after a long and painful year, writing that he was tired and could no longer keep fighting.

She spoke of “God winks” carried through the hardest days: scripture, prayer chains, butterflies, hospital staff who became family, and a community that never stopped lifting his name.

She also shared what so many already knew: Dustin was deeply faithful, full of joy, and the kind of person who brought joy.

Chief Joel Richards said it best: “Dustin was the best of us.”

He said know him was to love him.

Today, that love is being carried by his wife, his family, his fellow officers, and a community grieving a life that made this world better simply by being in it.
