North Whatcom Fire And Rescue..."Semper Paratus" Proudly serving the communities of WCFD21 and WCFD4
North Whatcom Fire and Rescue provides service to 182 square miles of residential, recreational, industrial and agricultural land in Whatcom County. In the summer months the population of 44, 040 grows by 10-12,000 as visitors flock to the Semiahmoo and Birch Bay resort communities. The northern end of the district runs East from Boundary Bay and the City of Blaine in the for 36 miles along the Canadian Border. On the south we border Lake Whatcom and encompass the unincorporated NE corner of the City of Bellingham East of SR 539 and cover northern Whatcom County north of the City of Ferndale. NWFR is a combination fire department, relying on both career and volunteer firefighters to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services. Our career firefighters are all medically trained to the level of EMT-Basic. NWFR staffs sixty full paid personnel of which forty-nine are full paid sworn combat personnel, six support personnel, and seventy-six part-paid and volunteers. The fire district operates from thirteen fire stations with four full paid engine companies with two of those companies being crossed-staffed to ladder trucks, and one part-paid engine company.

Practice, practice, practice! 🚒
Our crews are putting in extra time on vehicle extrication training this week, working through real-world scenarios with the tools and techniques we hope you never need us to use. Every drill helps keep our skills sharp so that when a crash happens, we can get to patients quickly, safely, and with confidence.
Extrication is a team effort that takes coordination, precision, and plenty of repetition. Training like this is how we make sure we’re ready when seconds count.

Thank you to the Meridian MP3 students for spending time with us today 🚒 Our Station 69 crew gave students an up-close look at the engine, the tools we carry, and how our crews respond when the community needs us.
Events like this are one of our favorite parts of the job. Kids learn what to do in an emergency, and we get to answer the great questions only curious kids ask.

While our Station 12 crew was out drilling, a curious neighbor stopped to ask how fire hydrants actually work. So we hit pause and gave an impromptu class!

🔥 BURN BAN LIFTED 🔥
Effective October 1, 2026, at 8:00 AM, the Whatcom County burn ban is officially lifted.
Before you light anything, please keep these in mind:
✅ Check current local burn regulations and any permit requirements
✅ Clear a safe area around your burn and keep water nearby
✅ Never leave a fire unattended
✅ Check the wind and weather before you start, and skip it if conditions are dry or gusty

Some of the best moments happen after the call is over 🚒❤️ Our crews finished up a response and got to spend a few extra minutes doing what they love most, connecting with our community. A group of kids on bikes stopped by to say hi, and of course, a furry friend needed some pets too!
