October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there is a simple way for knitters and crocheters to make a difference : Knitted Knockers.

Knitted Knockers are soft and functional breast prosthetics, given free to breast cancer survivors through the amazing Knitted Knockers organization based in Bellingham, WA.

This month I’m offering two classes to learn how to make knockers, and a skein of Berroco Modern Cotton DK is included with the class fee. If you’re already an expert, or have a stash of knockers you haven’t mailed yet, great! I’m happy to collect and ship them for you, and you can get more Modern Cotton DK online and in-store.

They’re fast and fun to make, and the first knocker barely put a dent into my skein. Their website includes plenty of links to video tutorials using DPNs or Magic Loop, plus variations on the original pattern.

Have you dreamed of designing your own sweater, but felt unsure how to get started? Join Elise for a brand new class, Intro to Sweater Design Basics, starting tomorrow October 3!

You'll learn the basics of knitwear design from sketch to sweater in this special two-session class. Students will start with a swatch of their choosing, create a schematic sketch, and learn how to use gauge math to write a pattern for a custom-fit drop shoulder sweater.

I finally finished all the crocheting, edging and seaming - now to tackle all those pesky ends. It’s worth it to have a finished sweater I can wear until it gets chilly!

I’ve been thinking a lot about my wishlist for fall and taking stock of what’s in the women’s boutiques this season. The color I’m seeing everywhere is a warm, chocolatey brown - I love a neutral that’s not black, white or gray. What do you think? Will this color make it into your fall closet?
