Since 2008, DOGust 1st (August 1st) has universally been celebrated as the OFFICIAL BIRTHDAY for all shelter dogs including those at Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center. The "holiday" serves as a collective birthday for millions and millions of shelter & rescue pups who do not have official birth records showcasing their history. While we LOVE to celebrate shelter dogs EVERY DAY, we're always looking for a reason to PAW-TY- let's makes some matches and open some kennels!! Please SHARE this post (don’t just like).

Here are just a few of the incredibly sweet, smart, cute, funny and loyal pups that would LOVE for their GOTCHA DAY to be DOGust 1st too!! This past weekend, Longview PAWS & Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center in partnership with Be. Spay/Neuter Consulting completed an intensive 3-day High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) training clinic, working side-by-side with their dedicated veterinary team and LACAC's very own shelter veterinarian, Dr. Loren Kempf, to expand access to affordable, lifesaving spay/neuter services throughout our community.

Together, we accomplished something truly remarkable: 151 dogs and cats from our community were spayed or neutered in just three days (free of charge including vaccines & microchip). But the impact goes far beyond a number. We changed lives—not only for those 151 pets, but for the thousands of future animals who will never enter a shelter because of unwanted litters. We strengthened families, prevented suffering, and took another giant step toward reducing pet overpopulation in Gregg County.

Because of your generous donor support, we had the opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced spay/neuter professionals in Texas as they mentored, trained, and strengthened our surgical and veterinary team. Investing in people is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting change and that's exactly what this partnership is all about.

This wasn't just a clinic—it was an investment in the future. The skills, knowledge, and efficiencies our team gained this week will continue benefiting pets and the people for years to come.

A heartfelt thank you to Be. Spay Neuter Consulting for sharing your expertise, and to every staff member, volunteer, local vet technician and veterinarian who worked tirelessly to make these three days a success. We appreciate you!!

REMINDER, tomorrow is another afternoon for a SHELTER SKIP DAY at Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center. Temps will be cooler this week with rain moving in and out. Do YOU have a few hours to give?!?

Pup cups, park strolls or lunch on the patio, these field trips make a HUGE difference for LACAC shelter dogs- there a few wonderful candidates willing & waiting!!

Interested in joining in?!? Here's a quick refresher on how LACAC SHELTER SKIP DAY works:

-You can "check out" a dog for the day

-No pre-approval application required

-Outings happen during approved program hours: Tues, Thurs, & Sat from 12-4 PM

-No dog parks. LACAC wants safe, controlled, one on one fun

-Keep them cool, comfortable, and hydrated

-Dogs must return by 4:45 PM

That's it. Simple, fun, and incredibly impactful.
