Doing calligraphy on a leaf is a challenge but the end results are always so pretty. 🍃
In this video, I’m using a leaf from our lemon tree and a Posca paint pen.

Creativity for me lately, has been practicing more hot foil calligraphy, engraving & drawing flowers. I also decided this summer, I really want to take a pottery class.
Is there something that you’ve always wanting to try or take a class for?! I’d love to hear about it.
Did you notice that I lift and rotate the chalk after each stroke? This helps the lines stay consistent in weight, cleaner and means I don’t have to stop and sharpen as much. YES — I said sharpen! If you want to learn more about chalk art + lettering, follow along. 🫶🏻

I’ve been putting together the calligraphy kits for next weekend’s workshop, and I wanted to give you a little peek at 4 of my favorite tools we’ll be using.
Dual Brush Pen has a larger brush tip and also a bullet tip, which makes it great for monoline lettering too.
Touch Sign Brush Pen has a smaller tip and comes in so many fun colors.
Fude Soft Tip Pen is easy to use and a great place to start if you’re new to brush calligraphy.
And last but not least, a conical tip marker. I bet you already have one at home, especially if you have kids or grandkids.
Each one creates a slightly different lettering style, and some take a little more practice than others. I can’t wait to show you how to use them.

Let’s draw some tulips together 🖤
Step 1• Draw a skinny oval for the center petal
Step 2• Add a petal on each side & a curved line at the top of the center petal to add depth
Step 3• At the base of the petals, draw a stem & a leaf on each side
Step 4• Add highlights & blend
I’m using q-tips to blend and of course you can use color if you want too! 🌷

I’m teaching a Modern Calligraphy Workshop on April 25th at in Tempe, Arizona.
We will cover the foundations of modern, brush & faux calligraphy, including basic strokes, letter formation, spacing, and how to connect letters into beautiful words. You will receive a take-home calligraphy kit with premium supplies, including a workbook full of resources and guided practice, a Rhodia notepad, brush pens, and a personalized pencil pouch.

I absolutely love spring in AZ! The blooms on the cacti are so gorgeous but I do miss my tulips.
Also, I realized looking back in my camera roll that it’s been awhile since I’ve created with chalk. I definitely need to do that soon.
