Time-traveling 42 years into the past with Landsat data! 🛰️
Check out how our region has transformed between the summer of 1984 and summer 2026. To make the land use changes pop, we set our sensor bands to 6, 5, 2 (Shortwave Infrared, Near-Infrared, and Visible Green).
Here’s the cheat sheet for reading this map:
🌱 Bright Neon Green: Healthy, moisture-rich crops & active agriculture
🏙️ Dark Grey/Purple: Urban development, concrete, & road networks
Notice how four decades of growth turned lush fields into new neighborhoods and commercial hubs? Earth observation makes tracking community expansion a whole lot easier!

Know Before You Light! 🗺️🧨 Cache County Fireworks Update 2026
With unprecedented fire danger across the state this season, Governor Cox’s recent executive order restricts consumer fireworks through July 5th.
The Exception: Local city and town leaders still retain the authority to designate specific "Safe Zones" within their boundaries.
To take the guesswork out of your holiday weekend, our team has updated the interactive restriction map with the most current data available.
👉 How to check your neighborhood:
1️⃣ Head over to CacheCounty.gov/GIS
2️⃣ Open the Fireworks Restriction Map.
3️⃣ Search your specific address to see if you are clear to light.
⚠️ Please Note: Because fire conditions can change rapidly, restrictions are subject to change. Always verify with your local municipality or fire department for the most up-to-date rules before lighting any fireworks. Let's keep Cache County safe!

Did you know River Heights was originally nicknamed “Dry Town”? 🏜️
Before it became the beautiful, shady residential community we know today, this bench land in Cache Valley was just a barren cattle pasture completely cut off from Logan and Providence.
This quick history dive tracks how the community found its identity:
📍 1906: A town survey officially separates the bench from Logan City.
🏡 1910 & 1911: The first block, lot, and Summerwild subdivision surveys are drawn.
💧 1934: Faced with a severe drought, residents officially incorporate on October 31st to secure federal funding for a deep water well—and J. Karl Wood is named the very first mayor!
