✨ ADHD Coaching Now Available ✨
I’m excited to share that I am now offering ADHD Coaching and Counseling services at Elevate Student Success Center in Canton! 💛
As a Licensed Professional Counselor and ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider, I work with children and teens to better understand how their ADHD brain works while building practical skills they can use at home, at school, and in everyday life.
🧠 ADHD Coaching can help with:
• Executive functioning skills
• Organization & planning
• Time management
• Starting and completing tasks
• Focus & attention strategies
• Building routines that actually work
• Managing frustration & big emotions
• Asking for help appropriately
• Schoolwork & homework struggles
• Independence & responsibility
• Confidence & self-advocacy
• Parent strategies for supporting skills at home
ADHD coaching isn’t about telling a child to “just focus” or “try harder.” It’s about helping them understand what gets in their way, discover strategies that work for their brain, and practice those skills with support.
💬 ADHD Counseling is also available for children and teens who may need additional support with the emotional side of ADHD, including anxiety, low self-esteem, negative self-talk, emotional regulation, frustration, relationships, and behavioral concerns.

Progress may be quieter than you expected.
Emotional growth is not limited to the complete absence of meltdowns, anxiety, arguments, or mistakes. It may appear as earlier recognition, asking for space, accepting help, recovering sooner, or repairing afterward.
Progress might look like:
- Feeling angry and using words once
- Asking for a break before becoming overwhelmed
- Taking ten minutes to recover instead of thirty
- Saying “I need help”
- Trying again after shutting down
- Apologizing without being forced
- Telling the truth after initially feeling afraid
- Letting a trusted adult offer comfort
Growth is not always dramatic.
Sometimes it is one new choice inside a familiar struggle.
Notice the small shifts. They matter.

Validation and boundaries can coexist. You can validate the feeling without approving the behavior.
Parents sometimes worry that validating anger, disappointment, or sadness will reinforce inappropriate behavior. Validation acknowledges the emotional experiences, the boundary addresses what the child may or may not do.
Validation sounds like:
“I understand why you’re disappointed.”
A boundary sounds like:
“And the answer is still no.”
Both can be true.
You can also say:
- “It makes sense that you’re angry. Throwing toys is not safe.”
- “You wanted more time. The tablet is still finished for today.”
- “You didn’t like my decision. You may tell me without calling names.”
- “You’re allowed to be upset. I’m not changing the boundary.”
Children do not have to agree with a limit for a parent to hold it calmly.
The goal is not to stop every uncomfortable emotion. It is to help children experience emotions while learning safer ways to express them.

Sometimes the meltdown isn’t about the task, it’s about having to stop.
Moving from a preferred activity to a less-preferred responsibility can require stopping, shifting attention, managing disappointment, remembering the next step, and beginning something new. A brief warning, clear direction, and two acceptable choices can provide structure without turning the expectation into a negotiation.
“Turn off the game and take a shower” may sound like one simple direction.
For a child who struggles with transitions, it may involve:
-Stopping something rewarding
-Shifting attention
-Tolerating disappointment
-Remembering what comes next
-Starting a less-preferred task
Consider trying:
“I know stopping is hard. You have five minutes left. When the timer goes off, would you like to walk to the bathroom yourself or have me walk with you?”
The expectation remains the same. The child receives a little predictability and an appropriate amount of control over how they begin.
Choices work best when both options are genuinely acceptable to the parent.

Want praise to teach a skill? Tell your child exactly what they did.
General encouragement feels good, but specific or “labeled” praise helps children understand which behavior adults noticed and want to encourage.
Specific praise is not about celebrating perfection. It is about noticing effort, skills, and small moments of growth.
Children often hear plenty about what needs to change. Let’s also help them recognize what they are learning to do well.

💙 If this sounds familiar...
Emotional exhaustion isn't a sign of weakness, it's often a sign you've been carrying too much for too long. Your mind and body may be asking for rest, support, boundaries, or time to recover.
You don't have to wait until you're completely burned out to ask for help.

📚 Therapist Book Recommendation
If you've ever felt like you have to be perfect to be worthy, this book is one I often recommend.
The Gifts of Imperfection explores what it means to let go of perfectionism, embrace vulnerability, and begin treating yourself with the same compassion you so freely give to others.
One of the biggest lessons from this book is that your worth isn't something you have to earn through achievement, productivity, or pleasing everyone around you. You are worthy simply because you are human.
Healing doesn't happen when we become "perfect." It happens when we allow ourselves to be authentic, acknowledge our struggles without shame, and recognize that imperfection is part of being human.
✨ If you're struggling with perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-criticism, or feeling like you're "never enough," this book is a wonderful place to start.
Remember: Books can be powerful tools for growth, but they aren't a replacement for personalized mental health care. If you're feeling stuck, therapy can help you put these concepts into practice in your own life.
