The aerodynamics subsystem works to design bodywork that reduces drag and produces downforce. Reducing drag allows the car to cut through the air more efficiently while producing downforce that pushes the car into the ground. These components enable better speed and grip. Being a part of this subsystem involves visualizing how air will flow over various parts of the car and how we can use that flow to improve performance.

Austin - Aero Lead

"I love watching racing, and I wanted to know more about how cars were built to get the most performance. When I saw Formula Kentucky [my] freshman year I knew I had to join. I love seeing all the members of my subsystem succeed and giving them the tools to design the best parts possible. Having a view to see the subsytem's...designs come together is one of the most rewarding parts of being a lead." (Austin, 2022)

Meet the Leads!

Lauren - Powertrain Lead

"I joined Formula Kentucky to further my background in racing...I wanted to carry my experience over rom other types of racing. I enjoy being a lead [because of my] ability to learn with my teammates in varying situations as an FSAE team. What I do contributes to the team by being not only a leader within the powertrain subsystem, but also a leader for the entirety of the team." (Lauren, 2022)

Powertrain handles everything that makes the car move! From Intake and fueling to the gearbox and exhaust, the powertrain is the heart of the car. Being on powertrain involves design, simulations, and testing of major components. Everyone is important in making our car the best it can be, but without powertrain, we'd just be a display piece!
