In honor of Tree Week in Lexington, International Book Project is excited to host two paper-making workshops taught by on October 10! Our bookstore will be open for our normal Second Saturday hours (10am-2pm), and workshops will be hosted at 12pm and 1pm. All materials will be provided and the workshops are free!🌳

Many people in need of books live in incredibly remote places. Because of this, we sometimes have to get creative with how our books are delivered! Oftentimes, our partners work with us to deliver the books to their final destinations after they reach their home country by ship or air.

These folks are with SustainMe, one of IBP’s partner organizations in Uganda. Mail is not delivered to many of Uganda’s remote villages, so they drove a box of books to the village school we donated to themselves by motorbike! 🏍️

Through our efforts & with the help of an energy audit from Live Green Lexington, we slashed our power bill by 40% from June to July, even though the average temperature was roughly the same both months!

It sure won’t look like this again for a while! After sending out our big shipment to Tonga two weeks ago, our warehouse is looking pretty empty—a rare sight. Don’t worry, though—it’ll fill up again in no time as we prepare for our next large shipment! For now, we were just excited to get a chance to sweep the floors.🧹

Honestly, we’ve got no shelf control 😉

Thanks for everything you do for Lexington & the planet!

Many of you know that we have been working to fulfill a request from a volunteer in Tonga for the better part of a year. We're extremely excited to announce that it has been completed and, as of last Friday, has begun its long journey across the United States and then the Pacific Ocean!

These books (all 34,471 of them) are bound for the Kingdom of Tonga, an island chain nation with a population of just over 100,000 people. Tonga did not have any public libraries at all until 2019. 45 of Tonga's islands are inhabited, and currently only one of them in serviced by a public library. Sarah, a volunteer from New Zealand, reached out to International Book Project with a dream of changing that.

For the past year, Sarah has been working to build libraries on several Tongan islands, staff them, and connect them to the internet (and therefore each other) to create the country's first library system. She secured funding from the New Zealand government to train locals to work in the libraries and to connect them to the internet, and the Tongan navy has agreed to ferry requested books to different islands.

All she needed were the books.

That's where International Book Project - and you - stepped in. We are incredibly proud of and excited for this shipment, and it would not have been possible without our incredible volunteers, donors, grantors, and supporters. Thank you for helping stock Tonga's first-ever library system. We can't wait for the books to arrive!
