With our partners at the Kosair for Kids Face It Movement, we’re recognizing today as TEN-4 Day. Kids are kids, and sometimes they play in ways that result in minor cuts and bruises on bony areas of the body, like knees and foreheads. However, there are areas of the body where any signs of bruising should be red flags for possible abuse, especially for young children. Keeping kids safe is an adult responsibility.

October is Head Start Awareness Month, a time to recognize what Head Start means right here in central Kentucky.

At Community Action Council, we serve over 1,600 children and families each year, helping children build a strong foundation for school and life while partnering with parents and caregivers every step of the way.

For 66 years, Head Start has been part of our community, and we’re proud to continue that legacy.

Keeping kids safe is an adult responsibility. Healthcare providers, social workers, educators, dental professionals, and other concerned community members are invited to join one of the FREE TEN-4-FACESp Bruising Rule and Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma trainings (with free CEUs!) happening October 6th and 8th, presented by Kosair for Kids Face It Movement.

Today in Washington, D.C., we joined with several Kentucky Head Start programs to talk with Members of Congress about the impact Head Start has across Kentucky.

We also talked about the proposed federal changes to the Head Start Program Performance Standards and the importance of reducing burden without weakening the quality that makes Head Start work for 12,974 Kentucky children and families—and the Commonwealth.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to make sure Kentucky children are represented in
funding and rule-making conversations.
