Fact: The week prior to winter break may be the longest week of the school year.

Fact: All of our educators are incredibly amazing and will do everything they can to see students succeed!

Did you know that breaks are not paid leave? Most teacher contracts are for 197 days. Those days are then divided by 12 months. That means that most months a teacher is compensated for 16 days of pay despite working the entire month. This is how educators receive pay over twelve months. So educators do receive pay during breaks but the breaks are not paid leave.

It's an epic week in Virginia for Worker Rights. Last night, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance allowing collective bargaining for county workers. Now it's the school board's turn. The LCPS SB needs to show the same respect to its workers as the county showed their workers. Now is the time for a school board resolution allowing collective bargaining!
Having the experts who teach children at the bargaining table ensures that appropriate decisions are made. #unitedatthetable

The Loudoun Education Association is an advocacy organization for quality public schools and public school employees where members work collaboratively and organize for action to reach the common goals of the Association.

American Education Week, Day 2: Happy Family Day!

Parental involvement means reading to your children, checking homework every night, limiting television viewing or screen time on school nights, developing a relationship with your child's teacher, and simply asking children about their school day. Whatever the level of involvement, it is important to be consistent in order to make a difference in your children's lives.

By joining together, we can help ensure that each student has access to social and emotional support, meals and after care programs, and high-quality instruction.

No contract should be one-size-fits-all. Educator-negotiated contracts provide school districts with the freedom to tackle each school’s local challenges head on.
