Sometimes life just doesn’t feel fair. We feel like we were robbed and it has nothing to do with money.
Yesterday, we lost our sweet Mesa.
She was young. She was healthy and she had her whole life ahead of her. We bought her as a yearling with plans for her to be mine, but it didn’t take long to realize she was meant to be more than that. She had the kind of loving, gentle soul that would one day pack our girls around and take Kyle (my husband) through the woods — she was steady, safe, and kind. That’s something Kyle and I have both dreamed of doing together for years.
We were able to take one big hunting trip on her, after many shorter trail miles. That trip solidified that she actually was meant to be his all along. She didn’t do anything wrong the whole trip and was steady eddy- just how he likes them. I know she tried extra hard to be on her best behavior because she loved Kyle so much.
Mesa never pinned her ears. Never kicked. Never seemed to have a bad day. She was truly happy-go-lucky — the absolute sweetest girl. I always called her a supermodel with those big shoulders, wide hips, and that long, thick Latina hair. She was stunning. She was perfect.
She was supposed to grow old with us.
I know God has a plan for everything… I’m just struggling to understand this one.
Give your horse an extra love. You never know when it will be the last one.
Mesa, go find Salsa. She will keep you company until we see you again.
The sweetest girl who ever lived. 🩷
