This is why it is important to have a working carbon monoxide detector. This is a huge crack that was found in the heat exchanger upon doing a furnace replacement, The furnace was about 20 years old. Keep in mind if you have an old furnace, sometimes these cracks are harder to see without removing the unit to get a full inside and out inspection of the heat exchanger.
