Laredo Chapter, immigration isn’t just a national issue—it directly impacts our restaurants, workforce, and food supply here at home. That’s why the Texas Restaurant Association has joined partners across the country in calling for work permits that support our industry and keep food affordable.

We need your voice too. Please take a moment to sign the open letter and show that Laredo hospitality leaders stand united on this critical issue.

How No Taxes on Tips and Overtime will work 07/19/2025

🚨 New Federal Tax Changes Could Impact Your Payroll 🚨

President Trump’s recently signed tax bill includes major updates for the restaurant industry, with no federal income tax on tips (up to $25,000) and overtime (up to $12,500) starting retroactively from January 1, 2025—but only through 2028.

Key takeaways for restaurant owners:
✅ Tip income must be voluntary and reported to qualify
✅ Overtime tax relief only applies to the “extra” half (time-and-a-half)
✅ Eligibility may be limited to front-of-house workers
✅ Employers must wait for federal guidance (due by October) on several gray areas

While the tax breaks apply directly to employees, this could help attract and retain talent in a tight labor market.
