October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) — a time to recognize the contributions of workers with disabilities and the importance of inclusive employment.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” reminds us that every person brings unique strengths that help workplaces and communities thrive. At Peckham, we’re proud to employ more than 7,500 individuals with disabilities and other barriers, with more than 4,000 individuals gaining employment last year alone.

We’ll be sharing stories throughout the month, join us in celebrating the value and talent that make Peckham stronger every day.

Our staff spotlight this month is Kelly Scanlon, Assistant VP of Organizational Employment. Kelly has been with Peckham for 19 years.

What is your favorite part about working at Peckham? Every day is different, from the people we serve and the cultures we learn from to the meaningful work we do. I also appreciate being surrounded by people who genuinely care about others and are committed to making a positive difference.

Fun fact about me: I am adventurous, I have been sky diving, white water rafting and drove a Ferrari over 110 mph at Michigan International Speedway!

Yesterday, Revolution Farms by Peckham joined partners from across Michigan at the Farmers Market at the Capitol, with CEO Harry Pianko, AVP of Horticulture Tim Vogelzang, and students from Peckham's School Transition to Work program working side-by-side at the booth.

Seeing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan use our fresh produce during their Power Your Health food demonstration was a great reminder that local food can nourish communities while creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of workers.
