SLOW DOWN🚦🛑

Our speed-enforcement efforts are a never ending battle. Recently, our traffic unit stopped a driver going 74 mph in a 45 mph zone and the driver was given a citation. Don’t let that be you!

It was a VERY busy weekend in Lansing for LPD.

First, we had officers out volunteering at the very cool Youth Soccer Clinic, where over 150 kids got to take part in the free activities put on by McDonald’s of Michigan and The Gift of Soccer Foundation.

Then LPD was again on hand for the National Gun Violence Awareness Day event, where local advocacy groups got people together to WEAR ORANGE and bring attention to the many issues brought by gun violence.

As always, we’re so proud to be part of this community 👮‍♂️👊👮

UPDATE: We hate to do it, but due to the weather, we're postponing our Summer Safe Event. We'll be back with a new date soon.

Looking for something fun to do tomorrow afternoon?

Come join us at our Summer Safe Event! We'll have hot dogs on the grill, giveaways, and plenty of opportunities to connect with your local officers. We hope to see you there!

Sometimes, life is about making the best of a terrible situation.

Bettie Williams, grandmother of Amaiá Edmond, recently visited the Lansing Police Department to share copies of her book that honors Amaiá’s life and legacy.

Amaiá was 7 years old when she was murdered in Lansing in 2010. While no family should have to endure such a loss, the years since have led to a lasting relationship between the Edmond family and members of our department.

Thank you, Bettie, for sharing Amaiá’s story with us and for your continued support of LPD.

THE SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE!

Even if the temps might not feel like it, Memorial Day Weekend has arrived, and that’s always reason to celebrate after a long Michigan winter.

It is NOT a reason to drink and drive.

If you plan to indulge in any alcoholic beverages this weekend, please make alternative plans to get home and never get behind the wheel.

We will have extra eyes on the road, so don’t try us 👀 🚨🚔

A great night celebrating the people of LPD 👮‍♂️👮

At our awards ceremony on Wednesday, we honored our Officer of the Year, Civilian of the Year, and many others across the department.

Thank you for the work you do every day!

The campaign is underway! 🚔

Thanks to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, LPD, and law enforcement agencies across the state will be looking out for drivers not wearing their seatbelts. In Michigan, not wearing a seatbelt can cost you $65. Driving with a child who isn't properly restrained, in a car seat/booster, is a $120 fine.

Update below:

{THIS STORM HAS MOVED EAST}

3PM TAKE SHELTER NOW IN LANSING AND THE NORTHERN/WESTERN part of Ingham County due to extreme winds expected in the next half hour.

05/18/2026

Heads up, Lansing! Be ready for sudden downpours and low visibility.

{THIS IS AN OLD POST}

[MON 1PM] It's a hot one today! The heat and humidity are combining to bring us the chance for a line of strong storms to move through around 3:30-4:30pm this afternoon...

This activity has a history of damaging winds and torrential rain in the Chicago area causing near-zero visibility, along with frequent deadly lightning. Continue to closely monitor the sky (and this page) for updates through the day.

Once the line moves out around 5-6pm then we're done for the day.

“All gave some, but some gave all.”

Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day, a day dedicated to honoring the law enforcement officers who gave their lives protecting the communities they served.

Seven officers from the Lansing Police Department have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our city, and their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

In their honor, members of our Honor Guard traveled to Washington, D.C. during National Police Week to pay tribute to our fallen officers at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. They also attended the annual candlelight vigil recognizing the 114 officers nationwide who died in the line of duty in 2025.

Please take a moment today to remember and honor those who gave their lives to help keep our communities safe.
