Symptoms can range from mild to severe. Mild cases may only involve difficulty controlling gas. Severe cases can lead to an inability to control liquid and formed stools. A patient may have a feeling of urgency or experience stool leakage due to frequent liquid stools or diarrhea.

Because diverticulosis often causes no symptoms, it may be diagnosed during screening tests such as a colonoscopy. A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis may be used to confirm the diagnosis of diverticulitis.

A**l fissures often resolve with non-operative treatment. Common non-surgical treatment recommendations include:
Sitting in a warm tub bath 2-3 times a day for 10-15 minutes.
Stool softeners (Surfak, Colace, etc.)
Fiber (Metamucil, Citrucel, etc.) and plenty of water ( 6-8 glasses a day.)
Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain.

The colon must be completely clean for the procedure to be accurate and complete. You will need to follow a clear liquid diet and stop certain medications. Your doctor will review the preparation process with you.
