Michigan road workers stumbled across the bones of a mastodon skeleton at a road construction site last week in Kent County, MI. Initial field assessments estimate that the skeleton is about 40% - 60% complete. Drying and studying the bones could take more than a year. Afterward, they will be on display at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Texting takes your eyes off the road for about 5 seconds, which greatly increases your chance of a crash. At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of a football field blindfolded! Put your phone away and keep your eyes on the road.

Project Update: I-69 Reconstruction Project – Flint, MI
Check out the progress on this $100M MDOT project that began in the spring of 2021 and is scheduled to wrap up in November of 2022. These pictures are of last week’s bridge beam setting and deck pour near the I-69 and I-475 interchange. GLEG is working as a subconsultant on Rowe Professional Services Company's engineering team providing construction engineering and inspections.

As of August 2, 2022 – 36 people died on Michigan roadways since last week making a total of 599 this year. In addition, 149 more were seriously injured for a statewide total of 2,958 to date.

Last Wednesday a Berrien County Road Commission employee was killed in a work zone crash.
Berrien County Road Commission employee killed in Wednesday crash identified The Berrien County Road Commission employee who was killed in a vehicle collision on Wednesday has been identified as William "Mack" Isom, a 57-year-old man from Baroda, according to the Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Department.

The Fry Road bridge over Misteguay Creek in Saginaw County was recently opened for traffic. The old bridge was shut down after it failed an inspection in 2019 when the Saginaw County Road Commission deemed it unsafe. GLEG was chosen to be a part of the replacement project where we performed engineering assistance, inspection, and testing for the Saginaw County Road Commission.
