Student Competition Alert:
NASA TechRise Student Challenge
The NASA 2025–26 TechRise Student Challenge invites grades 6–12 teams (with an educator) to design experiments to fly on a suborbital spaceship or a high-altitude balloon. No experience is required, and students of all skill levels are encouraged to apply.
Sixty winning teams will each receive $1,500, a flight test opportunity, and NASA advisor support. Registration is open until November 3, 2025. Last year, there were two winning Michigan teams. Check out their experiments on the NASA TechRise Student Challenge Winners webpage.

2026 International Aviation Young Artist Contest
The Michigan Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics would like to invite all aspiring artists from ages of 6 to 17 to compete in the International Aviation Art Contest sponsored by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI).
For the 2026 FAI Young Artists Contest, focus your creativity on the theme “Fly to Save Lives.” With your crayons, paint, or pencils, show how flight can make the world a safer and better place. The sky is not the limit, it’s where hope begins!
If you are a teacher, parent, or student submitting artwork, you must first send your artwork to your state contact by January 6, 2026.

Student Competition Alert:
Rise Against Hate: Voices of Courage, Then and Now
The Kappy Family Art and Writing Competition for middle and high school students honors Anne Frank and Elie Wiesel by asking students to reflect on what it means to stand up to hatred—in words, actions, and everyday choices.
Writing prompts invite students to connect the past to the present and find their voice in the face of injustices in their schools and communities. All submissions must be prose or poetry, original writings, with a maximum length of 1,000 words or fewer.
Artists can draw inspiration and depict themes like bravery, resistance, solidarity, perseverance, and the power of memory in drawing, painting, or photography.
Competition entries must have a title and be accompanied by a statement of purpose. Submissions are due by January 23, 2026. For questions or more information, contact Traci Hopper at [email protected].
