For this week’s Spotlight, we’re featuring Tom S. and all of our Wood Shop volunteers as we kick off our first ever Cars 4 Kids Campaign, building wooden cars to donate to children during the 2026 Holiday Season!

These take just a few minutes to make, and will bring loads of joy to the children that play with them!

Eleven years ago, make717 began as a vision shared by a group of passionate makers determined to build a creative community in Lancaster County.

With crucial early support from Dr. William Griscom (then President of Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology), co-founders Ben Eisemann and Bruce Schreiner got to work securing funding and laying the physical foundation for our makerspace.

Today, as we celebrate our 11th Anniversary, our core mission remains unchanged: empowering a thriving, inclusive community of makers to bring their ideas to life.

Thank you to every volunteer, member, instructor, donor, and supporter who has helped shape make717 into what it is today. Here’s to many more years of building together!

Big news for the local maker community!

For the past 8 years, make717 has had the privilege of partnering and consulting with Pleasant View Communities in Manheim as they worked toward bringing a dedicated makerspace to their campus.

This new space, once completed, will include space for pottery studios, woodworking, visual arts, textile/fiber arts, and creative activities.

We can’t wait to see this creative hub come to life in Lancaster County!

This week’s maker is none other than Jared H., who recently completed this gorgeous cosplay helmet from The Mandalorian!

Jared 3D-printed this on our Prusa Research 3D printers XL Printer, and then sanded, primed, and painted it with great detail over the summer.
